Report Putitinabox&sellit • January 4, 2010 9:45 PM GMT
agree BigH the quality of grammar in this country is accelerating to ever lower depths........doesn't help when you hear that bimbo Cheryl Cole say it every other sentance in front of millions of viewers !!

scousers have always said "like" at the end of every sentence

we always used to take the p1ss out of a scouse mate

he would say "I'm starving, like"

we'd say "like what?"

Was in a shop earlier,a group of rowdy teenage girls had gathered & were having a very excitable loud coversation about a young lad that presumably they knew, their conversation went something along the lines of.............

'Did you go to Jim's party? It was like massive'
'I was like going but like couldn't find me nike like'
'Innit, like innit like innit, yo like like innit yo'
'scream........giggle .......scream'
'Hey Kim I like your bike like, innit?'
'Yo massive innit like'
Report Des Pond • January 4, 2010 10:24 PM GMT
It's often used as a way of conveying what a person would like to have said in a certain situation, but didn't. Without directly lying or misquoting. e.g. 'the effing copper said "Watch your mouth son!". And I'm like, "**k you you fat barsstard".

In hereford where I live a lot of the locals add the word "look" to the end of the sentence. As in "It was a tidy job look" A few times I have asked why and to a man they deny doing it. Its a sort of hereford secret look.

Ukraine or Russian natives use the word "Actually" in their English sentances.
Actually i think "Actually" replaces the words "You know what"
Report sidthekid • January 4, 2010 10:52 PM GMT
People in Wiltshire and Berkshire often add "then" to the end of a Sentance,
Eg;
Why did he do that then
He made a fool of himself then
Whats the score then

drives me mad!!
Report mitchell downie • January 4, 2010 10:54 PM GMT

It's worse in Liverpool :(
(what isn't)

They emphasise the word, then stretch and sort of gargle it. So it comes out as

Liiichkhkhe
Report BonViv • January 5, 2010 8:14 AM GMT
In fairness scousers have always seemed to use the word "like" ("sound") being the other scouse term ive never heard anywhere else.

Though i think the use of the word "like" is mainly the preserve of that ever growing army of kids, iliterate women, students and young gayers.
Report morpteh mackem • January 5, 2010 8:17 AM GMT
think people are confusing the northern use of the word 'like ' with the chav and modernish use of the word ' like ' . like.
Report Wedontneednostinkinbadges • January 5, 2010 9:12 AM GMT
its because people are socialogically forced into talking like that, because they have to act to survive. lack of intelligence and confidence imo.
