why does he always have to tinkle on his piano, he never plays actual melodies, his R and B orchestra must surely hate the 'music' too..that hootenanny show is getting worse every year, he promotes himself more than the other bands and even when they play he invariabll has to join in..next thing u know he'll be adding his zippy dubie doodle etc to grunge bands, well he would if they were on his show.

His style does seem a bit limited. I have to agree.

Played a few good tunes for Squeeze to be fair & is self-taught, so those facts have to go in his favour. The 'boogy-woogy' stuff he plays, however, is indeed a pile of sh!te.

well i wouldn't mind going to watch squeeze but if he rejoined em id make an exception, as they prob have to limit their repertoire owing to his add ons.

He plays "stride" piano, a la Fats Waller.
He is an incredibly talented pianist which is obviously lost on the cloth ears on here.

overboard no one disputes his talent, it's just he goes off at a tangent and shows off...its a bit like jazz, hard on the old sensitive ears.

Overboard - As it so happens, I play the piano too (self-taught btw), so I don't consider myself cloth eared.
Jools H is a good pianist, but he tends towards the same style of playing for everything, and he's been doing it for years so he should be good. His ability isn't in doubt, it would be nice if he could vary it a bit.

Study
Jools plays stride, bee-bop, rythym and blues and rock and roll.
4 distinct styles.
I call that pretty bloody versatile.

He plays all the right notes. But not necessarily in the right order.

He was peripheral to Squeez' success and he and his band, plus associations with box office attractions such as Tom Jones have never troubled the chart compliers, yet he still gets a gig at the BBC

Why?
