I keep having visions of my 2 year old daughter in near death situations or some sort of drama unfolding where death would be the only outcome

now obviously this is disturbing me when im asleep as when one of the various scenarios plays out i wake myself up trying to help her

if i went to my GP about this would them just think im a nut job or refer me to some sort of shrink who would then try to get to the root of the problem

Report Jayco • January 3, 2010 8:23 PM GMT
did you sell the fishtank
Report Glossy • January 3, 2010 8:23 PM GMT
The only advice I would give you is not to seek psycho-medical advice from a gambling forum.

I work in the medico-legal industry and can assure you that morbid thoughts such as this are not uncommon and are often linked with PTSD - there can be plenty of other causes too.

Go and have a chat with your GP - it won't be anywhere near as bad as you think and will probably help just discussing the matter with someone who can identify with your problem.
Report Ibrahima Sonko • January 3, 2010 8:24 PM GMT
I guess you really miss the child & maybe being back with the mother isnt a bad idea ?
Report The Night Watchman • January 3, 2010 8:25 PM GMT
sorry for my ignorance but what is PTSD

jayco - yes fishtank sold thankyou for enquiring again
Report Glossy • January 3, 2010 8:26 PM GMT
post-traumatic stress disorder

might keep a diary for a few weeks of when and what i keep seeing

only reason is if i go the GP he will ask me what i see and i wont be able to remember a single thing

plus some sort of evidence backs my story up ... or makes me look even more fit for the straight jacket
Report Jayco • January 3, 2010 8:28 PM GMT
as far as your dreams go, means you are worrying about her/missing her
Report The Night Watchman • January 3, 2010 8:29 PM GMT
thanks Glossy!

1. anxitey that you feel have lost them;
2. Feeling you are powerless;
3. narcissism - its actually about you - seek help if you often see yourself at their hosptial bedside and have to give them a blood transfusion/kidney

Shouldn't be too bad just depends how obessive they become.
Report The Night Watchman • January 3, 2010 8:30 PM GMT
one thing i always see is myself sitting at a childs graveside!

proper freaks me out that bit

think ill deffo get an appointment with the GP asap
Report Jayco • January 3, 2010 8:33 PM GMT
nwm, gp will not have a clue but he will refer you
and demand ......strong word i know......that you want to see a sleep specialist
Report winningthought • January 3, 2010 8:33 PM GMT
Yep, you are playing out your fears, its not so much about them as it is you so its actually quite narcisstic.
Report Glossy • January 3, 2010 8:33 PM GMT
The diary idea is a good one.

Will be fine mate - like I said, GP will have seen this kind of thing hundreds of times before.

Hope you get it sorted.
Report The Night Watchman • January 3, 2010 8:34 PM GMT
will do

ill do an update on here if i remember

jayco - will you remind me if i forget (you seem to remember my long gone fish tank, add this to the file you have on me)

thanks all
Report Jayco • January 3, 2010 8:37 PM GMT
of course i will
but get it sorted if u are worried
been there myself
Report Glossy • January 3, 2010 8:37 PM GMT
Without be disrespectful, jayco is not correct. You won't be automatically referred unless GP feels a specific requirement for this.

Not wanting to debate the subject - I handle this type of thing on an everyday basis.

Best wishes.

Ummmm. No, I work for an insurance company. Handling claims often made against us by 'no win no fee' sols who are acting for those injured through the actions of our policyholders.

Used to work for a solicitors a few years back - before the days of 'no win no fee' though :-)

I'm a great believer that dreams are largely expressions of anxiety. I don't wish to pry, but i assume your daughter is the apple of her daddy's eye. Her imperiled appearance in your dreams are not precognitive, they are a useful way for your subconcious to express it's anger by using the most powerful image available to it.

Relax, eat well, take exercise and examine your life to see if there is some unresolved area that you need to address. You're not going**ers, and the dreams will pass. Believe me, I know; I was as mad as a **house rat for about a decade and you don't sound the type :)
Report armchair jockey wilson!! • January 3, 2010 11:09 PM GMT
you are definitely going**ers!......thats exactly how i started .........and look what its done to me!

Exactly, I had dreams about my dad dying, it's just because you don't want them to die and hold it as a massive fear in your subconscious. This turns to anxiety (esp. seeing as you can't keep an eye over her 24/7) and expresses itself as a dream.
Bring it into your conscious mind for a few minutes, recognise how you feel about it happening and hopefully the dreams will stop. :)

Betfair - please intro a psychological forum....this is great stuff and the subject has a natural affinity to gambling.
Report ripper! • January 3, 2010 11:41 PM GMT
you need to get some valium before you sleep. its just anxiety and will pass.
Report stevie_p • January 3, 2010 11:44 PM GMT
no expert.
recurring dreams would to me suggest that there is something in your everyday life that you are not confronting and in order to keep the boiler from blowing it is becoming manifest in your recurring dreams.
i would also imagine that the daughter and death etc are symbolic and would work on that.
you could make anything up you cared for so u have to listen to your intuition.
i personally link death with change , the death of one thing making way for the birth of another. i would see dreams of death as a positive thing.
family as strength and a solid core.
in fact i would be doing the lotto for the next few weeks.
there are lots of experts in shyte talk of the highest order regarding dreams and stuff and im one of them.

Dreams serve so many multi-purposes and functions that it is almost ridiculous to attempt a comprehensive list of them. however If you accept the following as just two of them................1,.Dreams provide therapeutic experiences, including facing fears, neuroses and any other major or minor concerns
2,valid information about our motives, needs and decisions/desires.

Separation from a loved one, especially a child stirs emotions that are similar to a bereavement. The next time (if there is one) that you have this dream, immediately upon waking change the dream, in your mind, change the ending and replace it with a trip to the beach for example, with you and your Daughter enjoying your day together in the sure knowledge that there are many more to come!.

If you are doing the above in that "in between sleeping and waking state" then once will be enough, if you are fully awake then do it any time the dream occurs. THE DREAM will stop or even change to the "NEW" ending.

Even an "idle" Daydream with the new ending has a powerful effect on levels too complicated to go into here. the forgoing is a simple practical method of dealing with the problem.

forgoing* doh!. the exercise given is............ Heavy night last night!!
Report curious-cat • January 4, 2010 11:25 AM GMT
try to make your dream successful

.. so you actually save her .. in a heroic way ............... any child grave images switch to someone congratulating you

It might take some time but I believe we can try to control our dreams
