Can't stop it, though.

and the media will give it far more air time, publicity than the real funerals

On the one hand, if it brought any comfort to the relatives of dead service people I would say fair enough, on the other, a town which has become a tourist attraction because of the media obsession with filming anything that they think can draw another tear from the nation's eye.
At first a few people stood at the side of the road with heads bowed, the cameras came, now the whole town comes to a standstill ffs. |

It's hateful when people start threads, then go.

Here here Hoss on both postings!!!!!!
Let people mourn the dead by i think there are people outwith the town driving in to stand at the side of the road. |

its a mark of respect hoss , somthing you know nothing about, they are showing the country of the loss of brave young men, if you think they are doing it for the press then your a bigger moron than i think you are !!!!

If a hearse passes me I will bow my head, if I had a hat I would remove it, that's respect. I would not phone everybody I know so that the streets are three deep, while the cameras roll.

The town has become a patriotic symbol of this country, something I feel which we have lacked in years. Fair play to its townsfolk. Organisers of this march should get the welcome they deserve, I know if I lived anywhere near it I would be showing my revulsion at these baastards.

No, because they chose to respect our fallen heroes. They were doing this far longer before the media got hold of the story. The townsfolk chose to do this not for media attention but for respect and fair play to them.

Look, if it helps people mourn then I will stop, but I hope you realise how you're being manipulated by thetv and press.

By:
Ovalman, that's just it , your wrong. It started with a group of, mostly ex servicemen.
|
|
By:
Is there anything wrong with showing your respect? I think its a superb gesture by a whole town and proves there is still some patriotism in this country. I think your totally wrong for being so cynical.

And now it's being used by the right wing nutters and islamic sh!t stirrers to further polarise the nation :( That's what's truly sad.

Why are people on this thread equating patriotism with showing respect for the dead?
Two totally different things. Fair play if these people who line the streets are doing it to show a bit of respect (although it is a bit over the top imo, never happened until recently) but if they are doing it because of 'patriotism' then they suggests that it isn't the dead individuals that they are wishing to pay respect to, they just want to big up whatever is covered in a Union Jack |

It was an honourable thing when it started (I live in the local news area and it was picked up on after about the 2nd one i think) but many in the town say that things should change, they just aren't sure how. Morbid tourists turn up and what was a dignified moments silence as the hearses passed through the town now brings the whole town to a halt and is causing a bit of division. I think it stops soon anyway as Lyneham is closing down.
