i wonder how many minutes they were actualy in the cars
By:
I suspect Hammond's was crashed on purpose because they decided it wasn't safe enough for the final descent.

Very good episode, when Jez got caught on the side of death road was looking dodgey
By:
they had enough parts to build 3 new cars with them

Jeremy Clarkson RIP :(

BBC health and safety would have made sure that no-one was put in any risk at all.
Have to say that it looks a great place to visit. Always fancied going to the Atacama desert. |

^^^ and the Hammond rocket car incident?! :)

I hope they had their Jabs;
The heavy rain that has exacerbated Bolivias dengue fever outbreak has also triggered flare-ups in infections requiring antibiotics, such as Coqueluchoide Syndrome, a respiratory illness similar to whooping cough that can be easily treated with antibiotics. Human Cost: 33,735 cases identified; 19 deaths from hemorrhagic fever reported. Mosquitoes transmit dengue fever to people. A mild case often presents as a bad flu, with a headache, muscle aches and a rash accompanying a fever lasting up to seven days. In severe cases, these symptoms are so pronounced that the condition is nicknamed |

I don't get why people always have to be smart asses and say "well i bet they had loads of help" as if they're the first people to have thought of this.
Top Gear is an entertainment show. Of course they had help and support teams. It would make boring television if they didn't. Geeze just watch it and enjoy it for what it is. |
By:
Fair enough, but it's not played as if it's mere entertainment , where the fakery is understood. It's presented as a life and death challenge where our boys overcome all the obstacles with wit and ingenuity. The credits reveal the team of mechanics and (doubtless) doctors who were travelling with them, but why not do a 'reveal' at the end? Aren't these the perpetual adolescent middle-aged jokers who laugh at everyone and everything, including their audience (who pay their huge salaries)?
Alas, they can't laugh at themselves, any more than they could repair a knackered 4x4, or drive across a mountain range imo |

i thought it was a really good episode this one, very enjoyable

Pleased that the licence fees are paying for this ground breaking television.

Partof it is scripted obviously, like Hammonds car rolling away. Some of it wasn't; Clarkson passing on that road was genuinely scary I thought. Up to the observer to see what they want to see Orioles, its only entertainment at the end of the day.
By:
Clarkson'r reaction looked genuine, but how come so many camera angles were available?
By:
they were fimling a tv program
By:
Including having a camera set up across the valley that happened to catch the moment? Possibly.
By:
apparently they do the challenge first off with just the in-car cameras. then the whole thing is done again with the crew driving so they cane get all the different angles.
By:
well from what i can remember it was an incredibly long road , wouldnt they have cameras set up far away to follow them on a long shot for the full distance just to get the "normal" shots ??
must admit i was sceptical when i saw the Clarkson bit nearly going over the edge , i tried to see how they could**it but couldnt spot anything, looked genuine , if it was he must have been sh1ting himself as he seemed inches from death , it wouldnt surprise me if it was set up in some way like other things they do as most of it is set up for entertainment purposes but if it was not sure how they did it |
By:
BBC noted for allowing presenters to risk death during filming.Clarkson obviously has a gigantic set of balls and any viewer thinking differently can't have seen the exploits of this heroic risktaker.
By:
The proof it was faked was the close-up of Clarkson taken from the drop side of the cliff which was simply impossible to do
By:
it crossed my mind it may not be clarkson in the car when its right on the edge and its crumbling away but then its still dangerous for the guy sat in the car whoever it is unless the car is attached to the mountain somehow that we cant see
By:
clarkson is a big headed gobsh1te. needs the beating of a lifetime.

5mins 17 secs in is the scene nothing wrong with the camera work to me and you can see clarkson in car fromt he long shot as well |
By:
Only one way of settling this arguement.A BBC phone poll!!
By:
Mr Fishy - compare 5.24 with 5.43 - no close up camera in the first shot but there just 19 secs later
By:
FFS as if the BBC would allow the risk of somebody falling to there death on a tv programme, even though its only Clarkson. It was either made to look a lot worse than it was, or defo a stunt double LOL
By:
true, they would never risk it. looked scary but was a stunt.
By:
Going back a bit here, but anyone notice the uncanny resemblance between Clarkson and Andre the Giant. Same baked bean teeth too.
