great show. gonna have to watch it all from the beginning again to remind myself how great it was (done this loads of times with the sopranos). fav characters were mcnulty and bunk. id agree that it was a shame omar died that way too.

Yes excellent show, I liked the Omar character the best, and thought the attempt to kill his Mum on a Sunday was funny in the way ppl reacted to it, as it transgressed some kind of unwritten law. His death, though disappointing, meant that it got you thinking nobody was safe, which enhances the enjoyment.
Was quite surprised to find that McNulty was played by a posh English actor, thought it was a yank. Favourite series was the docks one. |

The best series for a long time, a lot of unknowns who I think will become future stars.
Omar was great, and I liked D'Angelo Barksdale in series 1, who I understand had to be killed off because of the flood of offers he had from Hollywood because of the show. But for me Bubbles was the man, with his constant battle with addiction. Check out, http://www.hbo.com/thewire/ It will bring it all flooding back, there's a great synopsis of each episode and an in depth analysis of each character in thhe cast and crew section. :) |

Greatest show bar none,
Love bubbles and funnily enough the dock series funniest part when that mad bird buys the nail gun. |

Very good show.
I actually thought Omar's, however disappointing was a good death in context, shows the ridiculous nature of it all. Death can come in any silly form, and always new young kids coming into this life style. The worst bit for me was when Omar actually survived being killed by jumping out of window and one of the few unbelievable moments I felt. Omar a character only supposed to be in 2 episodes before being killed off btw. The worst series was number 2 where they seem to go down one route and then pull back from it. Perhaps this was because it was sandwiched between the two best series though |

Also probably a good thing they didn't go too far with the number of series, but if they had continued, would have like to see them progress up the political ladder with the stories maybe look at state/nation wide and look politic from the senator/congress level
and media |

I would love another series, but I think it's too late now to reassemble the main cast.
If HBO can keep that team of scriptwriters together, I'm sure they can come up with another great series under a different genre. |

Series 1 - good
Series 2 - very good indeed Series 3 - starting to weary of it Series 4 - depressing Series 5 - risible |

I gave up after a bit...........I have saved hours of time............they don't exist........

i loved it aswell. felt a bit sad when it was over. agree with the ending, people becoming a new somebody else.
i thought the series at the docks was the best. favourite moment was when mcnulty was on a bender, crashed his car then picked up the girl in the cafe. also when him and bunk solved a shooting only saying the f word. i didnt like the theme tune, preferred the songs at the end of each series. fast train was my favourite, i thought it worked well with the mood at the end. |

Great series ,could easily have stopped watching after the first couple of episodes as I was struggling to understand a lot of what they were saying and every other word was f*ck it seemed.Anyone seen a mini-series called The Corner ? Same creator as The Wire apparently .
By:
It was good........might get the box set one day...
By:
loved The Wire, final series was sh1t though and way omar dies sh1t as well, he was one of best characters

Best series I have ever seen. I did read once that the creators did briefly think about doing a sixth series about the influx of Hispanics in Baltimore. However they ditched the idea as they did not have enough knowledge on the subject.

By:
the fake serial killer story ALMOST ruined the entire show. a great program but that was nonsense
By:
that was great, showed the desperation to do actual police work and provided the link between the baltimore sun and the police force

i read that too bout a possible 6th series but the fieldwork for it wud have been to cumbersome accordin to the writer.
Also on the subject of characters becoming other people, carver was being turned into daniels, from shopping his friend to then becoming lieutenant but still maintaining integrity. Strange how it worked out with the four kids, Neyman became a nice well rounded guy when it looked like he was destined for a life of crime and michael went in the opposite direction. Dukie was the biggest shame and felt sorry for Bradley too, another good kid that just didn't get the breaks. Dennis Wise was a great character i wish could have had more of a role in the latter seasons. Interesting at the end even with the warnings he had that Marlow couldn't resist the lure of the streets and hearing the corner boys talkin about omar with such reverence cements my belief that he would continue with that way of life. |

By:
there was a mini- series done by the writers before the wire. cant remember the name of it now but its worth checking out.
By:
mightmoyes its called 'the corner' about 1 drug corner in baltimore

The Barry Levinson directed series Homicide Life On The Street was also written by David Simon and inspired by his journalism on the Blatimore Sun, as was the Wire. Was a very giood series and certainly worth watching.
As for the Wire; I thought series 4 the best as it showed what happened to the kids. Series 2 with the unions was great too. |
By:
anyone else find the 1st 6 episodes or so tough going but ultimately rewarding once u got into it?
By:
About a year since I finshed the series.
I hated Omar a a character and he nearly ruined the show. The fake seral killer plot wrecked series 5. Series 2 was a masterpiece though. Prefer the Sopranos though. |
By:
wow we really disagree on that, thought omar was the best character on the show along with jimmy and i thought the fake serial killer storyline showed what all the characters involved were all about.
By:
Funny how people differ.
I would love to see a series based around The Greek and his mob. Could take it out of Baltimore a bit as well. |
By:
wud b gud no doubt, they cud still pick the wire back up if they wanted to, still a lot of major characters left, cud bring avon back, in a way im glad they ended it on top, same with sopranos and shield, all went out leavin us wantin more.

great show.
season 1 and 2 were just sheer class. found 3-5 not as good, but still highly enjoyable. |
By:
I'm halfway through season 2.. so am not reading any of the comments above... I know a few spoilers tho :(
By:
Best tv series ever imo. Loved Stringer and Avons fall out and enjoyed the political stuff. The Wallace shooting remains vivid - one of the most stressing scenes ever captured on camera.
By:
Fantastic show .
But I still think Homicide Life On The Street , Munch , Bayliss ,Pembleton & co was superior. The thread in the final series of the Wire with the made up serial killer was ludicrous % not worthy of the show imo. Recently got a signed copy of the Homicide book , looking forward to it. |

Can't remember his his name but the mayor was great...... Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Omar was the best anti hero i've seen, great quote when he robs the card game and Marlo says that's my money to which Omar replies " money don't got no owners only spenders."
By:
Clay Davis is the name you are searching for.
Great fun trying an impression of him. |
By:
i understand how ppl can dislike the final series storyline but its shows the sheer desperation of Mcnulty and lester to do real police work, it was far fetched tho
By:
Agree with most. The storyline was necessary but doesn't mean I have to like it. My favourite characters are Snoop and Slim Charles Snoop's voice is just awesome and her real life story mixed with her acting are sensational. I am going to her book 'Grace after midnight'.
By:
I think you're all missing the point about Omar's death, if you watch it through again the little kid that wipes him out has quite an important role, and is the only one of the kids who doesn't run a mile when Omar walks through, this re-occurs a few times throughout the series.
I thought Marlow was a bit of an unconvincing overlord when you consider the strength of pretty much every other character. |
By:
same kid that michael beats up, who is on his way to becoming the next omar
