Wait until after CES in Las Vegas later this month. You will see the 3rd generation readers - which is when a new tech starts to mature. You may also want to see what this fabled Apple iSlate is like at the end of the mnth.

cheers OR. Think the Apple thingy will be a bit too all singing, all dancing for this kind of usage (as brilliant as it will clearly be!) Will keep an eye on CES.

having worked at waterstones this christmas where we sold loads, i can say they've been an absolute headache.
loads of people have brought them back either becuase they just didn't like them (idiots) or becuase sony have had problems with their website which has prevented the ereader working. If you want one go for it they're good, but they're not for me. I'm still a fan of paper. The reader have an annoying 'flash' between each page and the books are just as expensive as their paper versions (apart from classics like Dickens and Austen which are free). Travel chargers cost a ridiculous £50 extra. Plus leather case, screen cover, light pack etc it's a damn expensive purchase. So it's up to you, but personally i'd rather stick with paper for now. When travelling you can swap books at hotels and second hand bookshops...so you don't need to carry more than 2 or 3. |
