They're okay as long as you don't keep kicking the accelerator down hard to chamge down a gear, then it gulps it up, well, mine does.

If you do any amount of driving in cities.....they're great........your clutch leg can relax and frees up your left hand for eating, texting, v signs, whatever...

I mostly drive auto's the best one was also the most ugly looking car too,a Ford Scorpio 2.9 cosworth ultima est, that car was fan bleedin tastic to drive,i kept the thing for about 8 years, and was sorry to see it go,the only downside was it cost 28k new,let it go for a grand trade in have always regretted it since,I still have hunger pangs when i see one for sale.

Had all sorts of cars in my time: manual; automatic; tiptronic; distronic; sonic the hedgehog; and I can honestly say I prefer the good old fashioned manual gearbox anyday.

Is that one of those fancy DSG gear boxes, they tend to be alot better allround than the old style auto box ?

The worst auto i ever had was a Mercedes C220 CDi est with tiptronic box that car was the most useless heap of sh*te always breaking down failing to start,in and out of the main dealer they could never find anything wrong with it.I kept the thing for 1 year then I replaced it with a Audi A6 2.7 TDi est, that car is surperb never lets me down ever, its auto box is so smooth, good motorway cruiser, and very frugal too.I would reccomend Audi to anyone, good car.

ive had a driving license since i was 17 (now 38) and havnt driven since day i passed , just passed test straight away with 10 lessons mum bought me for birthday and wasnt bothered after that

thought about getting an automatic as i assume they must be so easy to drive after such a long lay off from driving , and i may have to start driving to work in near future as i dont fancy getting pulbic transport

what are the best ones at a decent price,, 2nd hand ones probably dont want to spend a load of money,, i know Audi mentioned above but im guessing these are really expensive

or where are there any good car sites to look at them,, cheers

Big Charlie,I know that for sure I had a couple of XJ's the last being a XJ40,so you can tell how long ago that was, nice cars but my god can they charge for servicing,it was not unusual to get a bill of £750 things were always dropping off it as well.People told me it was a car for a old man,so perhaps I should get another!

Looks like a fish?,have a look at AUTO TRADER or PISTON HEADS,plenty to look at depending on your budget,Audi's are very well built, dont touch main agents,go for a diesel engine, dont worry about high miles they just keep going for ever, you can get a ten year old A4 1.9 TDi with say 120k miles for about 2k,those would be worth a look but say 6/8k you could go for a nice A3,hope you get on ok.
