happy new year all you sharp minds

i'm thinning on top and really notice it in this cold weather, even when loafing about in my centrally heated (but a bit drafty) home

so recently i've taken to wearing a hat indoors as well as outdoors. it really makes a difference - with 20% of heat lost through the head, you can understand why

current model is a standard woollen beanie, designed for outdoors wear i would guess

does anyone know of any hats designed specifically for indoors use? the victorians must have had something i'm sure

serious answers and the inevitable ribaldry equally welcome

Report topkat • December 31, 2009 3:09 PM GMT
thanks poker - i was sure i'd seen them wearing hats indoors in costume dramas, but had never taken the trouble to register what style

i guess i could pick one up at a theatrical costumier. think there's one in shaftesbury ave

Why not give a home to a cat and train it to sleep on your head? The added benefit of you will look less stupid and chav-like than if you are male and wearing a hat indoors is an added bonus.
Report gresty241 • December 31, 2009 3:09 PM GMT
wouldn't say chavs, more the goody two shoes brigade

a heidi hat is a lovely option
Report topkat • December 31, 2009 3:10 PM GMT
postie - you ever tried wearing a hat indoors?

it seems to warm the whole body, even though it only covers the head

i suppose it stops the heat just rising and percolating out the top, like putting a saucer over a cup of tea to keep it warm
Report postmannick • December 31, 2009 3:10 PM GMT
my house is the same i favour a flying type helmet with furry linning pull the flaps down ...lovely jubbley
Report topkat • December 31, 2009 3:11 PM GMT

its what the swiss wear but is in fashion... a famous person who wears one would be badly drawn boy however i believe dappy out of the fine musical arrangement n dubz is renowned for wearing the odd one

roger that, postie

i'm after something a little lighter though

in similar vein i used to have a Red Army winter hat. too warm to wear indoors though; forehead in a lather within a few minutes

I wear my Betfair hat when I'm betting.

My mrs nicks the scarf now and again as she like the colour. :)

In hindsight I'm more inclined to a pickelhaube.

topkat what we should really do mate is sort out the drafts in the house come to think of it i think i"ll make that 1 of my first jobs next time i have a few days off work
Report topkat • December 31, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
poker that's awesome

except for the "snap it up for £100" bit...

something like that is going to do the business though, that's for sure

the kind of garment that raises one's IQ and creativity simply by the act of putting it on

only worry is i may feel obliged to purchase a meerschaum pipe to accompany it
Report gresty241 • December 31, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
i stopped wearing my betfair hat once they started charging me for wearing it
Report topkat • December 31, 2009 3:21 PM GMT
postie you're right

but fixing drafts is tricky and boring

and wearing hats is easy and fun!
Report postmannick • December 31, 2009 3:22 PM GMT

Report topkat • December 31, 2009 3:22 PM GMT

all you need next is some "shoes for wearing indoors", then perhaps an "overcoat for wearing indoors when you get out of bed"

Fez is favourite, will look well with both smoking jacket(casual) and black tie.
Report TEN2FOLLOWER • January 1, 2010 9:41 AM GMT
Thin hoodie (gym type, not gang type) best imo.

Try a turban!

Those that wear them do so, indoors and out, in all seasons!
