A friend is thinking of becoming a life coach. Currently working as an occupational therapist in the public sector - young and ambitious with no family ties though so seems like a good move to me.

Apparently you can take a course to become a qualified Life Coach within 6 months. Not sure where Life Coaches get their clients though. Surely the Government should consider funding life coaching for the long term unemployed to help them motivate themselves and encourage them in their quest for work and to improve their circumstances?

Do any chit-chatters have experience in this field?

Life Coaches advise you how to take steps to improve your life - achieve your personal goals, meet your career aspirations and reach happiness in your personal life - that sort of thing.

Would n't you be pleased to pay someone to help you become a better, more fulfilled person?

you can be stuck in a traffis jam and get stressed to F, OR use that time to plan ure day, life coaching part 1
Report Dobbo • December 29, 2009 6:40 PM GMT
Hilarious. So a complete stranger has 30 minutes or so to weigh me up and give me advice on the b leeding obvious. And they want wages? Besides I am all ready fulfilled as are all chit-chatters

I'd be happier NOT paying someone for this. Sounds like new age mumbo jumbo of the New Labour lets-make-up-some-public-sector-non-jobs variety. Never needed this in the olden days etc etc

Yes but modern life is so full of stresses and pressure.

Some people do find it hard to run their own lives and make decisions - they wake up in the morning feeling a bit depressed, and (especially in January) when they get up, draw back the curtains and see that it is cold, dark and raining, it is understandable that they decide to go to back to bed for a few hours rather than going out to work in a job they do not like.

These people need the help of life coaches to put them on the right track.I'm sure most of them have lots of untapped potential that a life coach could unlock.

Errr no it isn't. You work, you get money for it and you spend said money on things you enjoy. Called life last time I looked

The first thing Id ask the life coach is...

"Is advising a$$holes like me all you aspire to ?"

Who were those crazy blond people on one of the satellite channels a while back? Running around their house getting all happy and everything. The man must have been related to the McGanns (Liverpool acting family). Absolute cobblers.

Life coach wtf is all that about?

They have them in Kings Cross I think, but they are not called Life Coaches.

This thread deserves more attention imo! an underated cracker and it outlines the perils of seeking opinions for erm.."friends" "i have a friend who thinks he might be gay etc"

So what the hell are Life coaches? I thought they only existed in these corporate ivory tower type places where thrusting young execs could have mini nervous breakdowns then get sent to see one of these spouters of guffery.

It's the sort of thing i imagine BBC execs get sent to and the compnay bill the beeb £185 an hour or suchlike though i could be wrong they may be hard working salt of the earth typers providing amuch needed service

Exactly the sort of situation where a life coach might be useful - I would even contend that some forumites are already providing life coaching services unwittingly. They should go on the course, get qualified and unlock their life coaching potential for the benefit of less fortunate members of society. The more I think about it, the more life coaching seems like a vocation.

" You are a creative, intelligent human being with so much potential wasted stacking shelves at Asda.I think I have a career path for you that will be satisfying and fulfilling.

And the good thing is it only takes six months. Yes, thats right only six months and you will be fully qualified."
