In the context of the infamous ( and utterly pointless) jockeys' championship being decided on prizemoney rather than on number of winners I have to say I can't see why riding the winner of , say , a 25K race should in some way be seen as more meritorious than riding the winner of a 2.5K one ( leave aside the implication that it is rated equal to riding 10 such races !).
Horses are competing against their peers whether it be a Group race or a selling handicap . Horses can be co-operative or quirky in any class . Hard luck stories can arise whatever the type of race . ...slow start , baulked, hampered etc.
The only difference is the headlines and hoopla attaching to a more valuable race .
Once the gates open -the jockey's job is just the same .
