Kauto only beat Imperial Commander by a nose last time it ran and that horse opposes it today. Imperial Commander is a year younger than Kauto Star, is relatively lightly raced and may yet have scope for improvement.

Kauto Star is 1.57

Imperial Commander is 10.0

Guess which one I've backed.

The one that ran twice here before and was useless ?
Report wur • December 26, 2009 4:44 PM GMT
He had only run once at Kempton before today. Hit a fence that day too, and was heavily eased afterwards.

I'm not a 'horses for courses' punter, except for the National course at Aintree.

anyone got a working link?
Report HRH The Lager Khan • December 26, 2009 4:52 PM GMT
This horse is a freak in as much as come Cheltenham, he could win a Champion Chase as opposed to a Gold Cup and would be about a 2-5 shot for the Ryanair race.
Report Shrew D • December 26, 2009 4:52 PM GMT
The video isn't playing but you can download it from youtube using the Firefox widget. Mines downloading as I speak.

Report Slippy Blue • December 26, 2009 5:20 PM GMT
A truly magnificent performance, simply sublime round of jumping by Kauto Star. An excellent commentary by Richard Hoiles as well I thought, he is in a league of his own.

Interesting that it was beaten at 2/11 in a 3 runner race on its second start here. Haven't read the details of that race, but would guess it shows it's vulnerable in a slow paced race.
Report Shrew D • December 26, 2009 5:40 PM GMT
You mean the one where it fell and was remounted?
Report mwnightmare • December 26, 2009 5:40 PM GMT
wur i think you will find that in his second race he fell, was remounted and still only got beat a short head if my memory serves me right.
Report wur • December 26, 2009 5:42 PM GMT
In fact, in all but one of the races in which it completed the course but finished 2nd, it was running in a small field. The exception was its 2nd to Denman in a 12 runner Cheltenham Gold Cup. If you ever see it in a field of hold up horses, that'll be the time to lay it.
Report wur • December 26, 2009 5:42 PM GMT
Didn't know that. Remarkable, if true.
Report wur • December 26, 2009 5:45 PM GMT
