Is it a case of banging away until it resembles a tune and getting your voice in synch with plating the chord?

Santa brought my daughter an electric guitar, she's going to learn through youtube.

I'll tell her that link above though, thanks.

learn the guitar/singing individually. get yourself to a standard playing where you forget about your strumming hand - bounce your knee as you go to get an idea of standard 4/4 timing. then you can just set your strumming hand away, and concentrate on chord changes.

hopefully it wont sound too patronising to say it takes hours of repetitive practice...you will feel like youre getting nowhere for a while, then one day youll pick up a guitar and it will all come a little more naturally. you then start work on another skill, and the process repeats - dont ever think youve hit a wall in what you can learn.

also, its good to know chords and even better to learn music, but maybe start by finding tabs off the net...they show exact finger positions, and trying to learn your favourite song is a lot more fun than running through scales endlessly.
