Always enjoy watching this Dickens classic at Christmas and Patrick Stewart's version is one of my favourites.
Imagine my dismay this evening, therefore, when, two minutes from the end (and right in the middle of Fred Scrooge's final speech praising the transformation in his uncle) the screen was shrunk and the audio completely turned off to advertise a bloody programme about Katie Price.
Unbelievable! The film was restored just in time to hear Fred's last couple of words before the credits started rolling. It's bad enough when the editor resorts to these sort of trailers during the credits when you're trying to see who played the part of whom, but to suddenly fade them in during the actual final scenes is unforgivable.
It beggars belief who thought this would be a good idea. :(
Its among a host of gimmicks utilised by the media studies graduates that provide our broadcasting, PM. I share your irritation.
Right up there with: * slight drumbeat or background 'music' when things are read out (sports news, traffic reports for example). *Turning up the volume for adverts (or to get round this, turning the voulume DOWN for the actual show). *Female falsely jolly over-intonated (or should that be intoned?) voice-overs on everything. *The need to show people are happy by making them have their mouth open very wide. *The need to show what's "Coming up in the next part of the show" when we're watching it. Particularly irritating on top 100 shows that one. and most of all........
Waiting for about 30 seconds before announcing winners/losers/results. This is completely unneccesary.
