How come the elderly are struggling round. Surely it's easier for them if anything, they can just take a short run-up and skid everywhere. They're just moaning because they enjoy moaning imo.
By:
I am thinking of the elderly m8, the amount of them struggling about is terrible and IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT WAY. :(
By:
Council should buy them all a set of skis.

larrence - the rumoured reason why they wont clear the paths is even worse.
if the council clear the paths and u subsequently fall over, then, legally, the council is liable for not doing the job properly and u can sue them. if they dont clear the paths and u fall over, then u cant sue anybody, as its an act of god. it also saves them a feck load of money. it so fecking scandalous a reason that its almost definitely true. |

He's being given a hip replacement this afternoon.Doctors said it would be an improvement on the current one,pre-breakage that is.

My daughter slipped over yesterday, and broke her wrist..
It was in a Tesco car park.. 3 people have broken arms, and at least 10 small prangs in cars.. And yes all because they are scared to clear the car park!! |

Waiting at a bus stop this morning beside the entrance to a pub(Ember Inns) I was wondering why they hadn't cleared the ice from their forecourt,a not very large area.Perhaps 'wolsey end' has provided the answer, though I'm not convinced.
In my youth,in a village in Scotland prone to snow, people would clear the snow from the pavement along the length of their house.Nowadays,I live in the south east but have maintained that tradition.Does that mean that I might be sued if someone falls on my cleared area??? |
By:
I seem to recall last feb that a bloke was warned by the council because he went to clear the pavement
By:
if there's blame there's a claim

You're up for paying more taxes then, swindon?! |
By:
Was passing through the town centre earlier today and one of the main shopping pavements was just a sheet of ice, not a speck of salt in sight. It's a **ing disgrace, bet loads of people have gone on their arses on that.
By:
More snow coming down now to nicely conceal that 3 day old compacted ice.

Wolsey End - that info is wrong mate - council's can be sued when they haven't gritted highways, as can shops etc who fail to grit their car-parks.
Google Occupiers' Liabilty Act 1957 for more info. |
By:
occupiers liability act 1957 relates to visitors to a premises and the occupiers related liability for any injury sustained - you'd do well to stretch the definition of premises under the Act to the streets. while the Act itself helpfully does not define 'premises', common law has created plenty of examples but again, think you will struggle to classify the average street as being subject to the Act. doesnt mean you cant get them under other legislation mind...

Come on councils wave your magic wands and make the nasty weather go away.
P.S. Without increasing the council tax to pay for it of course. |
By:
shocking winter is this, the worse 2 that come to mind though are mike and bernie
By:
Jeff Winter was worse imo
By:
a lot of councils have done their b** investing in icelandic banks and cant afford salt.

Devon have laid of 80 highways staff.
Its going to be a nighmare here |

C'mon chaps, lets see a little backbone. Good Lord, you'd think a little snow was a plague of frogs! I am not thinking of myself m8, its the thought of seeing pensioners struggling around WHEN THE GRIT should be down SIMPLE :( |
By:
Pensioners shouldn't have to be strugglin about - that's what family, friends and neighbours are there for.
By:
larrence - I genuinely feel very sorry for you but you surely know that our deluded Scottish Prime Minister does not care at all (to put it politely) about the plight of his own citizens and prefers to throw away millions of pounds of our taxpayers' money at climate change sympathisers and, more worringly, aid to African dictatorships who care more about filling their boots in offshore bank accounts and duty free imported German cars than the poverty of the citizens of their own countries.
By:
Yeah but some pensioners have no one.
i helped 3 old ladys today with trolleys - they could hardly stand, cause of the ice rink, i think it is not right, totally wrong and sadly sums up this country. :( |
By:
You have**ed my conshunce. I know an old lady who lives alone - I shall knock her up tomorrow and see if she wants owt - yeah AND I'm a nasty Tory see!
By:
Look, in all seriousness, the amount of roads in this country, it is impossible to keep everywhere gritted all the time. The best is for main roads to be gritted.
By:
Its the TOWN CENTRE where i live is like an ice rink , i don't expect all roads to be done. Pensioners going shopping for rations and need to wear ice skates not on :(
By:
First rule of driving in frozen conditions is to stick to the main roads, they probably over salt the main roads as that is where they will get slaughtered if their is a problem.
