Tradition turkey then....?
Are you looking for a red or a white? |
By:
no idea really I am a man who drinks cheap bottled beer
By:
I'd suggest a Pinot Noir if you opt to go for a red then.
If not, perhaps a Chardonnay. Many Chardonnays are oaked, which isn't to every drinker's taste, so I think the safer bet is the Pinot Noir. I think the New Zealand Pinots are generally very good. Majestic usually have a good selection, most sub £10. Put in the fridge for 20 minutes before serving to get to "cellar" temperature. |

Tesco red. It was £3.99 and it was really nice.

Consensus opinion amongst my mates is that the Oyster Bay 2008 Sauvignon Blanc isn't bad. £5.99 at Sainsbury's at the mo.
By:
Should be able to get a bottle of Barolo for a tenner.
By:
Oyster Bay is a decent Sauv Blanc, but not the right combination with turkey.
PJ, this one is good if you can stretch the wallet a bit further ;) http://www.majestic.co.uk/find/category-is-Wine/Colour-is-Red+Wine/Style-is-Light,+elegant+reds/product-is-37189 |

What kind of standard is Echo Falls ( £4 ) from the offy?
By:
what standard do u think for 4 quid??!!!! jeeeeeeesus
By:
nero d'avola from tesco is not too bad at £6.49, and is 2 for £10 at the moment!
The only bad thing is that you have to go to tesco to get it!!!!! |
By:
I don't know if it goes with turkey more or less than any other wines, but Wild Rock NZ sauvignon blanc at £9.99 from Waitrose is a cracking wine.
By:
Hogg,
It's the only one i have and was wondering if it was good value by asking others with more knowledge whether I should maybe fork out another couple of quid and get a better one. Now pull your head in and calm down. |

what standard do u think for 4 quid??!!!! jeeeeeeesus ------- You pompous ****. Some £4 wines taste better than some £100 wines. |
By:
its not rocket science brodie - if u buy the cheapest wine out there its gonna be the worst. that doesnt mean that u will find it undrinkable. if u think its ok then thats fine. its like buying a dairy milk choc bar. if u like it thats fine but obviously most people would agree that a £2 choc bar is gonna be better
By:
Some £4 wines taste better than some £100 wines.
in some people's opinion. some people prefer burgers to steak |
By:
Its £3.80 at an offy close by and £4.8 at another, so is it better at the second offy?
I'm very limited in my knowledge of wine and was asking. The response could have beein a) ALL wines in that price bracket are no good b)Echo Falls is a good example of a cheap wine c)Echo Falls is a bad example of a cheap wine. What did I get ? A sh1tty argumentative reply as per expected by some tw@ts on here. Should have fackin known. |
By:
im just telling u the truth. any wine thats about £4 is gonna be pretty mediocre (to a wine buff). if u drink it and u think its ok and doesnt taste like sh1t then thats all that matters. i guarantee u if u compared a £4 wine to a (say) £20 quid wine u would notice the difference and u would think the £20 wine was much richer and stuff. but would u wanna pay £20 for it? thats up to u

By:
Brodie - agree that price is no great indicator to the quality of a wine
if you're looking for some suggestions on wines to have this Xmas could do worse than checking out http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/article6961704.ece |

Any New Zealand - Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a nice tipple, Oyster Bay, Montana or a nice cab sauvignon or merlot in the red dept, wolf blass good value.
By:
I'm tucking into a Gran Lopez garnacha-tempranillo.
By:
Brodie, one thing to bear in mind.
The packaging etc costs for a £4 bottle are the same as a £20 bottle so you're paying a a far higher percentage of the price of the cheaper bottle for the bit you don't drink. |
By:
agree about the Marlborough / Montana wines from NZ, also Tesco do a very nice Finest Chablis for 6 quid reduced from 9 quid at the moment, and an Argentinian 2007 Reserve Malbec for the same price which is decent.
By:
Ohh, I better go for the stuff they put in cartons then JM.
That any good ? ;) No need to reply, I'm pretty sure it aint! :D |
