Found the whole of the apartment's post on the floor in the communal part of the apartments tonight, inc my pay slips, a new credit card issue, and a tv licence invoice. Next time i see the lazy** he's going to get a rocket.

I do not think people realise how bad the postal service has become because most of the time we do not know when our post was delivered, eg bills, christmas cards etc. However, with birthday cards for close family that is when you know how bad it has become. I send birthday cards to my brothers each year and it never fails to annoy me when they are not delivered the next day, even though I post them so that they go the first collection the day before. My brother only lives a few miles away from me, but again he did not receive his card on his birthday. What is going on?

Interesting programme - though he did deliver to every door and not check the names. Postie has to overcome obstacles of course - gates adn steps and dogs and rubbish letter-boxes, vehicles in the way - none of which that computer programme can allow for in any detail.
In the 90's my employers introduced a computer programme to shedule tie staff roat's for a week based in the anticipated sales and then expected number of items sold. It was a shambles - so many factors not taken into account by a programme written by IT's guys that have never been in stores.

The program did well for the posties - merry xmas redbag.

I'll answer that for you/him.
Because it is fashionable to slate the Royal Mail for some reason?
Yes, we make the odd mistake, hey, I bet you do at work eh?
You'll miss us when Cameron sells us off and your paying £5 to post a letter from Plymouth to Glasgow. This price was admitted as true by a DHL guy on the Jeremy Vine show recently.
Support your posties before it's too late.

Ok then, Liverpool to Southampton.
Report HarryCrumb • December 15, 2009 11:34 AM GMT
It has to be sold off. Its the only way to get even a bit of money for the pension fund. Nobody seems concerned at all that all these postmen arent going to get the pensions they are entitled to.

If it meant i would get my mail on time and have confidence it were to reach its detination on time i would gladly pay £5. The first class stamp nowadays is so cheap as it reflects the efficiency with which your mail is dealt with
Report Brodie • December 15, 2009 12:15 PM GMT
You should send everything special delivery. Costs about a fiver and very rarely do they get lost. Thay have to be signed for all along the route and are insured.

There is nothing wrong with the postal service and deep down most people will admit that.

What feckin differance does it make to 99% of the general population that you get your mail delivered in the afternoon, at 5pm or 8 oclock at night? really , honestly does it make an iota's worth of differance - NO

Maybe businesses need there stuff early doors but if a couple of hours makes so much differance for a normal letter than perhaps that business needs to take a look at itself.

People in this country just have to have a pop at everything, whether its the train that comes 5 mins late ( and if it wasn't for the fact you get an announcement telling you that, you probaley wouldn't have even looked at your watch and noticed), or the mail that arrives after lunch, lets have a go.

WHY DO YOU THING THE ELITE MASSES LOVE THAT?

Because it then gives them the perfect excuse to hammer the price up with the promise of a better service ( which obviously you will never get, unless it means paying 1000% more for the privilege of having junk mail an hour earlier) - you can't moan now though can you? you got what you wanted and more importantly you got what you deserved.
Report Max and Paddy • December 15, 2009 5:38 PM GMT
Trains always seem to run on time when I'm abroad. And they're much cheaper than over here.

And why shouldn't we expect our post to come early doors? That was the way for many, many years - why should it not be the case any more?
Report The Priest • December 15, 2009 5:49 PM GMT
Max the point im making is that ok the mail always came early BUT is it so vitally important that it makes people seeeeeth with incandescent rage that they get there gas bill 2 hours later, and are quite willing to pay through the nose just to have said bill arrive a bit earlier?

As i said, the elite masses in this and every country must cry themselves to sleep each night with laughing at the thought of Joe Public actually doing all the dirty work for them.
Report Max and Paddy • December 15, 2009 5:51 PM GMT
It seemed to me that the point you were making was that it didn't matter if trains were late cos people didn't look at their watches.
Report Brodie • December 15, 2009 5:53 PM GMT
A first class stamp is a contract to get the item delivered the next day.
The reason that the post arrived early was as a courtesy purely to help businesses and the offshoot was that the public got their mail at the same time.
RM have no obligation whatsoever in getting your mail to you before work, you just reaped the benefit of customer relations of the past.
Report The Priest • December 15, 2009 5:58 PM GMT
Max seriously does it matter one jot if the train arrives 3 minutes or so late? Really matter.

People are making a big deal of things that simply are not.

example and this is from experience.

Standing on platform waiting for train, announcement comes over ' The ..... to ..... is delayed by 3 minutes '

The way the people on the platform reacted you would thing WW3 had broken out, 3 FECKIN MINUTES !! for crying out loud. You can wait longer than that to get on the escalator to get out of the station or at the traffic lights waiting to cross the road!

BUT the funniest thing was the train actually had made up that horrendous 3 minutes between stops and arrived on time, NOBODY noticed that of course and then to make matters worse started berating the guard when they got on a train that was on time.

You couldn't make it up.

Only in this country, small trifles become huge burdens that require a lie down and a glass of something strong.
Report G1_Jockey_4 • December 15, 2009 6:26 PM GMT
if youve ever waited for something to turn up rather than having to drive to a sorting office (and not be able to park)or in other firms case drive miles away to pick up a package then im sure youd rather know roughly what time they will turn up so you dont have to sit about scratching yer aarse.
Report V4 Vendetta • December 15, 2009 7:14 PM GMT
Redbag, do people get fired for being a few hours late? Why is it a race? I can't imagine people complain about a few hours, it's when it's three days late at the wrong house people are a bit peeved.
Report alun2005 • December 16, 2009 5:42 PM GMT
Been away for a few days but caught this programme, and yes this was irrefutable proof that The Posties are harder than the Marines.

The Marine openly admitted that he wouldn't fancy that postie's job 5 days a week. It makes you wonder though how much faster we would have recaptured The Falklands if it had been the Posties sent to the South Atlantic.

I reckon if the MOD has any remaining sense they will send all the Posties to Afghanistan and Iraq ASAP, and then it will be all over by the time of the Cheltenham Festival.

Well done the Posties.

#i don't give a feck if my post turns up late or the next day even. All it is usually are items of junk mail or bank staements etc - nothing earth shatteringly important. I don't want to pay $5 to post my mums birthday card instead of 30p. Post it a day earlier to avoid dissapointment. Simples.
Report alun2005 • December 16, 2009 7:45 PM GMT
I sent a package first-class and Signed For on Monday morning, to an address around 50 miles away. Still hasn't got there.

I suppose I should be grateful a Royal Marine isn't delivering it or it might be 2010 before it gets there.

Surely I can sue some underpaid public servant for 'hurt feelings' and 180k compo about this, or what's a British court for?
