cos there isn't a timing system on the water, dunno if that's normal

but anyway, how often and for how long should you use the immersion(?) to keep the water hot on normal use?

if that makes sense

mine doesn't have a timer either, which i find weird and annoying. biut it's a very new flat and i'm told these modern water tanks are so well lagged they lose very little heat so it's not an issue. hmmmm
Report twopoundpunter • December 16, 2009 12:02 PM GMT
mine has atimer but i have never figured out how to set it
Report HH Sultan Vinegar • December 16, 2009 12:03 PM GMT
but shirley you could heat them up during the night on the economy seven system and save money??
Report canaryboy • December 16, 2009 12:04 PM GMT
well it has to lose heat at some point so maybe a few hours a day is enough?
Report canaryboy • December 16, 2009 12:04 PM GMT
wtf is the economy 7 system?

i just want a bit of hot water
Report V4 Vendetta • December 16, 2009 12:04 PM GMT
I have a flat like that. I echo the comments on lagging. Our advice is to leave it on unless you're away for more than 5 days. The bills are reasonable (well, as reasonable as they can be with all the social tarriff bullsheet we have to pay for in our prices).
Report canaryboy • December 16, 2009 12:06 PM GMT
oh i see!

yeah i had heard that leaving gas hot water constantly on isn't much more than setting it
Report UTV29 • December 16, 2009 12:07 PM GMT
I have mine on for 2 hours a day during economy 7 times. 4am till 6am. The tanks use 3 kw's per hour so i wouldn't recommend leaving it on all the time :0

what are ecomomy 7 times?

My daughter in rented house. She works for the council (housing grants) and went to a meeting with energy advisers.''For best efficiency leave your c/heating boiler (electric) on continuously''.
She tried it - £50 usage over the weekend. Best tell those 'experts' where to go imo!
I've had the latest combi installed, cavity wall - loft to latest spec. windows DG of couse. The savings? - well maybe before I go six-foot under in a few decades time.

They vary from region to region but generally they are from midnight until 7am
Report CUPRA • December 16, 2009 12:11 PM GMT
to be serious, we changed the boiler for a combi, 'efficient'..havent noticed a particular downturn in bills. its set to very min temperature and still is either too cold or far too hot.

cant stand storage rads, awful things
Report everythings gone green • December 16, 2009 12:12 PM GMT
Economy 7 is a con.

You get cheaper electricity when you don't need it and pay more for it when you need it.

Only any use if you have those ridiculous inefficient storage heaters from the 60s and 70s.

Some idiots put their washing machines on at night to save a few pennies FFS!.

yes, they are. in the summer when there's little else being used but lots of showering and washing machine use the units used aren't much at all. so it must be true about the lagging.
