Not Right imo . Three guys with knives broke into his house, tied up him, his wife and children, and threatened to kill them.

Managed to break free , and his brother helped him chase the robbers. They caught one and beat the **** out of him with a cricket bat.

Burglar got Community Service.

The Burglar is going to get compensation for the beating he took too
Report redrich • December 14, 2009 10:57 PM GMT
This is fecked up. If you don't want to take a beating, then don't rush into someone's house and tie up their family.

I would have done the same.
Report redrich • December 14, 2009 10:57 PM GMT
...if I'd got the chance
Report Ibrahima Sonko • December 14, 2009 10:59 PM GMT
You could make this up. :(

Law in this country seems to protect the offenders.
Report CJ • December 14, 2009 10:59 PM GMT
Attacking people with sporting equipment is very popular at the moment. Should have killed the**. If someone breaks into your house and does that, you should be allowed to persue them to the ends of the earth to exact revenge.

Unreal ,the mans wife has had a stroke since ,what did expect him to do? give the burglar a pat on the back and send him on his way.
Report Larry's Codpiece. • December 14, 2009 11:18 PM GMT
Sorry guys but the law is quite clear. You can't detain someone and render him defenceless and then beat him with assorted implements so badly that he suffers brain damage.

If you don't like the law then campaign to have it changed.
Report tobermory • December 14, 2009 11:21 PM GMT
Well yeah it should be changed.

And it's not as if it was cold blooded revenge, it was a continuation of the incident , there was no break where the guy could have calmed down .

It is ludicrous for the Law to expect he could, in those circumstances , just switch off the anger at what had been done to his family.
Report casemoney • December 14, 2009 11:23 PM GMT
I.M.O people who come into to peoples homes tie them and theirr children up and threaten to murder them ,will end up badly injured
should their captives happen to get loose ,infact alot of people
would kill them ,you dont want them coming back ,if this bloke
had a gun and managed to shoot these people all dead ,why should
he go to prison ?
Report tobermory • December 14, 2009 11:23 PM GMT
And apparently the burglar has since comitted further crimes ,so his injuries couldn't have been as incapacitating as most would assume when they hear brain damage has resulted .
Report casemoney • December 14, 2009 11:24 PM GMT
as tobes said hardly premed or revenge ..
Report mafeking • December 14, 2009 11:24 PM GMT
frankly even if he'd simply caught him and tied him up ready for the police very likely he'd still be in trouble so lacking in common sense are the police and CPS these days
Report casemoney • December 14, 2009 11:25 PM GMT
Id take short odds the**bag ends of killing some innocent person.

One should have the right to protect one`s wife and family. In USA he would have been looked upon as a hero. To many do gooders.
Report Larry's Codpiece. • December 14, 2009 11:36 PM GMT
I agree with a lot of your sentiments but such is the law. By the way the fact that he was wound up about what happened to him and his family was taken into account by the judge because his brother got 9 months longer.

If it was up to me I would have given him a public service medal.
Report owl4life • December 14, 2009 11:43 PM GMT
what a crazy world we live in, what was he expected 2 do?
Report Big Charlie • December 14, 2009 11:44 PM GMT
Should have knocked him out, then dropped his head in a fish pond, and left him there. If no pond available, cram him head first into a wheelie bin, then fill it with water. Dump him when you feel like it.
Report punkha1 • December 15, 2009 12:15 AM GMT
Britain seems like a crazy place to live these days, criminals have more rights than victims.
Just today Ireland has put forward new legislation giving people the freedom to defend their homes & families from attack http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1214/justice.html .
If you break into someones home in the middle of the night then your fair game imo.
Report topkat • December 15, 2009 12:21 AM GMT
Is this actually a true story?

Was in the pub earlier today. Some guy had just got back from Skipton in Yorkshire and said he had been told off by the council for celebrating Christmas too energetically. Apparently it might have offened Muslims.

I could believe both these stories, but I'm reluctant to.

Wrong to retaliate. The law says so.
Lets have a new law where once detained and convicted we can then take a cricket bat to him.
I hate criminals, they ruin everything.
Catch 4 graffiti artists and tattoo their tags on their foreheads live on BBC. End of graffiti i assure you.
We are too damned soft.
Report Big Charlie • December 15, 2009 2:37 PM GMT
This country facking baffles me. That bloke had 55 previous convictions, so why wasn't he locked up anywa y? And the bloke who got jailed broke the cricket bat he hit him with. Baseball bats are easier to swing imo.
Report tobermory • December 15, 2009 2:37 PM GMT
The Burglar got a 'Two Year Supervision Order'

He had 54 previous convictions
Report speedypro • December 15, 2009 2:39 PM GMT
If he had been executed after the first crime never mid the other 50 odd, I think on balance the world would have been better.
Report mafeking • December 15, 2009 2:39 PM GMT

The pathetic laws here will make this place a nightmare to live in, in 5/10 years time. Politicians don't care, because they are greedy selfish lazy eejits enjoying the easy life.

The man was silly, he should have waited to be tortured and killed. The tough laws would have taken care of the rest.
