Hard to compare with NCFOM - many of McCarthy's regular themes surface in each book. The Road is much more of an 'unputdownable' than NCFOM imo. Read some of the Amazon reviews if you're thinking of buying it

Steeplechase you've made my day with that link - I didn't realise it was Viggo playing the man, now I know it's got to be amazing. I'm sure I saw a glimpse of the actor that plays Omar in 'the wire', to make the moment doubly joyous.

fecking amazing book - read it in one sitting, and yes, I did shed a tear at the end. can't remember another book that had that impact on me in a long time.

Read it a couple of months ago and it left me a bit cold tbh.
Might have to give it another go though, given the almost universal acclaim it received. |
