My brothers just been on a weekend drinking session in Dublin. He came across a large amount of anti English hostility from the natives, just what exactly is their problem with us English?

Yes, and most of them can probably use English better than you can.

So the Irish don't like tourists with cash on hip then? Thats a great backwards view to economics.

Could be something to do with the way your country treated the Irish for 800 years

Now you're crying because you got a bit of stick on a drinking session

Or perhaps the Irish lads were**ging the fact that you've got eyebrows on your cheeks

Who knows

PS

Thank you, come again

Spare me the very old school grievances and victim thinking. If anyone of recent generations should be bitter it's the English against the Irish. thanks Gerry and his boys for that!

Off course. But on this occasion the bad attitude came from the Irish.

Ye, that sounds like the bitter resentful Irish to me. Holding the modern day population to blame for Cromwell's (and the Irish lairds who willingly sold out their own to the English) transgressions.

Fair enough, you carry on with your petty grudges and I'll take my holiday cash to Prague, job done.
Report whodareswins • December 13, 2009 6:22 PM GMT
From my own experiences I suspect some of the Irish think that Ireland should be one country.

Its what you make it.

We go to Burnley every year for a weekend p1ss up, some are unfriendly to us (I'm Norn Irish BTW.) Does it stop us from having a good time?

Enjoy yourself and take a chill pill.

BTW I've been down south loads of times, even supporting my proddy team. The locals have been fantastic on every occasion.

You can't make judgement about people based on a weekend
drinking trip. Generally Irish people will be nice to you if you
are nice to them although you may be unlucky and bump into
some who are are atogonistic towards some British for
historical reasons.
The same applies to Irish people in Britain. The majority of British
have no problem, but there a few because of bad experiences
with IRA etc. will continue to have some negative views.

Come across countless people from the UK while out and about in Sydney. They're mostly terrific until they've had too much then they require a fight.Scots probably the worst offenders surpassed only by Irish.Totally mad.The strange thing is they are nearly all about as big as a large jockey (what do they eat?) and going mad in pubs in Sydney, with a significant number of massive pacific islanders as clientele,is suicidal!!

I thinks it's cuz the English as a nation are loud, obnoxious, arrogant, call us thick, and tend to swagger about like they've got a canoe under each arm.
Report nononsense • December 15, 2009 10:26 AM GMT
from my experience some Irish (and other celts) are fine until they`ve had a drink or two and then the outpouring of bitterness starts.
It` pathetic really, since English people of today have no personal responsibility for what happened in the past (that goes for the Empire`s misdemeanours as well).

double standards by Irish people making a living in England, enjoying our hospitality.
Report awesome impact • December 15, 2009 10:30 AM GMT
What a stupid thread!! The Irish are no different from people in others countrys. Yes you will get a few bad eggs, or a few that will get rowdy after a few drinks and go looking for trouble, but to brand everyone on the actions of a few is stupidly naive.
The majority of people in Ireland, as in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are very nice and friendly.

The Brits (if we must generalise) of course are perfectly behaved when they have had a drink or two.
