Im going to try and pack it in 2010.
Unlike bito i cant make it pay.
Any tips from the guys who quit ?
I guess my first move would be to get rid of the Laptop. Too tempting to bet with easy access .

I doubt you'll find anyone who has quit on the betfair forum to be honest :)

If it is that much of a problem for you then I suggest contacting all the bookmakers you have accounts with (including BF) and getting yourself self-excluded for 6 months. That way even if the temptation is there, you won't be able to get on.

Yes I stopped when I joined BF in 2002.

Didn't see the point on throwing it down the casino chute when I saw the potential on here.

you dont have to pack it in if you like a bet Go into My Profile and limit your bets Edit limits or self-exclude simples Good Luck

just like smoking they say if you've smoked you can always start again, so you have to give yourself targets. A day, a week, another week etc till you get to your goal - in your case end of 2010. Good luck

Can´t do it myself it´s what I enjoy doing and will always punt but have a break every now and then when things don´t go my way. My Dad had horses and dogs as did his mates since I was born, with Dermot Weld and Pat Hughes. I went to Catford dogs as a 5 year old and had a 10p forecast up, 5 beat 2. 33/1 and 12/1 the second. I had no chance after that..

ive cut way back.

Now i only have a few quid in my bank and bet on the occasional golf major or F1 race even then its less than £10 a bet. TBH its more effort than its worth. Will probably pack it in altogether soon.

Couldn't if i wanted too. I wouldn't know what to do with my free time. I love it. I think about horse racing for most of the day!

Quiting gambling is like try to quit any other addiction, you`ve got to want to stop in the first place.

Close all your accounts
Don`t watch sport on TV (Cancel Sky)
Don`t look at racing pages in paper.
Don`t hang out with gamblers.
Don`t post on gambling websites.

Then it`s easy.
Good luck.

Anyone managed to quit gambling ?

Yes, i've done it hundered of times.
Report Far From Trouble • December 14, 2009 11:53 PM GMT
I haven't managed, never tried and I don't want to

All in moderation, everyone needs a few quid to blow in their life imo!

I'm only a relatively small punter, and that is the way it'll remain. Don't get all this full time stuff, just seems dangerous to me

I tried to but was unlucky.

Went to an A.A. session but just as it was getting interesting and I was realising the error of my ways I had to go and put a Placepot on at Market Rasen....they had gone by the time I returned:(

A much better solution would be to make it pay

all the usual smart ar5es mate but the best advice is self exclusion. Use the self exlusion option on sites that have them or email them if you can't find it. This will give you six months breathing space and if you can do it for 6 months then why not forever...

Why not set a monthly limit you can afford ?
I don't know your circumstances , so lets say a £100 per month ..
You know your budget ..
if you lose the lot youve lost £1200 in the year ..
Look on it as your hobby ..Golf costs that , Premier League Football supporting similar ..
If you win in a particular month ...reduce the balance to £100 for the start of your next month ...and so on ..
If you run out of Funds by the 26th of month ..TOUGH...you wait until the 1st of month for your next budgetted £100 to start ....
Under THAT kind of control , its NOT an addiction but a Hobby ...

The few people I've met who had a problem and managed to stop all said basically the same thing.

"Just got fed up with it/lost interest in it after one too many losses/found something else in life(partner/hobby/interest)"
Report Veck • December 15, 2009 8:44 AM GMT
forget about limits/budgets. you know you'll go over them.
