theres this odd whirring noise coming from the boiler cupboard.. cant work out if it's the motor in the pump making the noise or not.. the pump was knew last year.

its only a dull whirring noise, not like the pumps running dry or something

Thing is our heating seems to have stopped working, any idea what the problem/solution could be?
plumber obviously, but only want to do that after we've tried to**for free first.

Could be your flux capacitor. What year do you make it?

Fan bearings knacked. Stave off for 2 months with a squirt of oil. Still need new fan though, bearings same price.

It might not even be fan flued. Could be an old open flued apollo.

If it's a GRUNDFOSS pump it might just need the end float slack taking up.

Mine did just after it was installed.

There's a big chrome screw on the end, you remove this then tighten the smaller screw inside (I think).

thanks there is a big screw on the outside of it, i might give this a go, i can't break it can i?

dont mess with gas imho
Report Andy Murray • December 14, 2009 7:23 PM GMT
not really gas is it? just hot water
Report everythings gone green • December 14, 2009 7:24 PM GMT
Have a google for instructions first, it's years since I did mine.

The pump is separate to the gas.
Report yorky • December 14, 2009 7:27 PM GMT
i just bang my pump with an hammer, or undo big screw and turn little screw inside, but watch when it sets off cos you got to whip the screwdriver out quick

funnily enough, i turned the system off and on a few times, it made bubbling noises and seems to be as good as gold now

I've just read this fred and I can't work out if everyone's fishing, or if these solutions are genuine!

I really am the most unpractical person in the Western world.

You are NOT the most impractical Mand P!!:(

I AM !!!

Driving 30 years and haven't any interest ( or a clue) how to change a tyre on a car ( though I know "a Man" who does know) :)

Just about change a lightbulb now after 55 years...lol

About seven months after I got my first car, my tyre blew on the motorway on a Saturday evening. I got Green Flag out to fit the spare, and they threw the burst tyre in the boot.

I put the spare in the bin and got a new tyre on Monday (the day when the bins were emptied round my way).

The fella from the garage said, "The tyre will be £20. Where's the wheel."

I said, "It's in the bin."

"No, you put the tyre in the bin. Where's the wheel?"

"It's in the bin."

"What - the metal bit inside the tyre?"

"Yes. Why?"

"Cos that'll be another £30 for the wheel!"

:(

Nice, scrappage here you come. All you need is a couple of cards at the bingo and you're one of Darling's winners.
