'politics of buying receiving'??
Report Ronaldinho's dentist • December 14, 2009 1:14 PM GMT
yeah politics, buying sh!t people dont really want, getting sh!t you dont really want. Id rather just get something that makes me think of the person (at any time of the year) without them feeling they have to reciprocate, when all is said and done, I dont actually want any presents but if someone makes a bit of an effort, regardless of how small, and its done out of genuine feeling, that is infinitely of more worth
Report madsimon • December 14, 2009 1:18 PM GMT
welli can see that you are not really making 'an effort' with that attitude son!!

the commercial side of christmas is a bit much, but ya cant help enjoying the run up to christmas day, i am looking forward to it this year, i bought my girl friend an engagement ring so looking forward to giving that to her on xmas morning
Report madsimon • December 14, 2009 1:23 PM GMT
Christmas is about making it what you want it to be. If you want it to be a miserable time it will be. On the other hand --
Report mitchell downie • December 14, 2009 1:25 PM GMT
Not true, what about all the people who live alone, they're not likely to be looking forward to it.
Report madsimon • December 14, 2009 1:26 PM GMT
well they should (if they want to enjoy Christmas) get out a bit and speak to some neighbours or family or friends
Report mitchell downie • December 14, 2009 1:27 PM GMT
mmm, in an ideal world everyone would have family and friends.
Report mitchell downie • December 14, 2009 1:28 PM GMT
I know a few old people round here who have no family, and as for neighbours they're surrounded by Muslims.
Report madsimon • December 14, 2009 1:29 PM GMT
well granted you cannot alwasy guarantee having family but there must be a reason if you have no friends. ie you have not made the effort -so the solution is to make a bit of effort and interact a bit!!
Report madsimon • December 14, 2009 1:30 PM GMT
muslims can be freindly too (even at Christmas you know!!)

Gonna put a bit of a dampner on the rest of the day if she says no... I'd wait until after dinner if I was you.

Good present though, not only does it mean you can get away with not buying here a proper xmas present it also means you'll ever forget your engagement date.
Report madsimon • December 14, 2009 1:31 PM GMT
having no excuse not to remember your engagement date is a burden a man can do without imho!!
Report ya' havin' that one dave • December 14, 2009 1:32 PM GMT
ah i bought her some other stuff too, just small things, i dont want to sound too full of myself but she'll defo say yes, i was thinking of waiting til dinner but by that time she will be wondering why she only got a dvd and a cd for xmas

Christmas Day is a time for immediate family. I'm about to have my first xmas without my kids, and have had a couple of invites from good friends to spend it with them, but would feel really awkward.
Report mitchell downie • December 14, 2009 1:32 PM GMT
Undoubtedly, but lots of them don't know how to converse with English people. I have several Indian families near me, pleasant enough (some of them) but hard work making conversation.

blimey I'm slow, that was to Simons 14-30

ya' having......I heard on LBC radio(talk radio) that some guy has a friend who was planning to ask his girlfriend 'The Question' on X-day, but this friend knows that she is not really in to him and she is just waiting till X-mas to see what kind of present she is given to help her decide.....

Probably loads of guys intending the same....

Hope it's not you.....
Report slipperynipple • December 14, 2009 1:35 PM GMT
Yeah I'm sure she'll say yes, if she's anything like my missus then you'll have had months of her making hints about it anyway... personally I'd give her the CD/DVD and then leave her to stew for a while thinking you're a tight ass.

I suppose then you could do some naff thing like putting it in a cracker and watching as she fails to notice it fall into her dinner and then chokes on it or something.
Report cunnybobbler • December 14, 2009 1:36 PM GMT
my politics are nobody ever buys me owt so i dont buy anybody owt. it seems to work amazingly well.
Report slipperynipple • December 14, 2009 1:38 PM GMT
Oh, I love christmas. As in the actual day itself, big fat b#stard dinner, lots of boozing, family all around, tree in the corner, watching **e like home alone and falling asleep at 3pm just to wake up and do more eating and drinking, I love it.

It's just the sickening music and adverts starting in late september and the sheer volume of people in the shopping centres I hate.

Normally like Christmas, this year's however is obscnely inconvenient and massively expensive, pity those organising large family get togethers

Just give her the DVD and CD. If she gets a strop on then don't bother with the engagement ring imo. If she's happy with her lot and just to be with you at Xmas, then you've got a good un. If she starts sulking because you've only spent £15 on her at play.com in the midst of a recession then shoot her in the face.
