according to Blair. NOT REally the point though is it? We went there on the (trumped up) basis that he did have WMD. They se.xed up the dossier to appeal to the common man. Still had no support from the people of the UK, still invaded Iraq and never found WMD and never apologised for taking us there against our will and then not finding WMD.

Tony Blair really is a c.unt of the highest order.

I suspect he's sincere in his desire to get rid of saddam, which is why he went to so much trouble imagining WMD and misleading parliament. Such corruption should lead to criminal charges, athough I suppose that's a bit irrelevant given the penalty for waging an aggressive war.

I like that he makes the complete non-point that Iraq is better-off without Saddam. Is it better off, are WE better off without the thousands of thers who died in this charade? Are we better off for the deaths of all those who've died at the hands of extremists, convinced by this illegal war that the West are tyrants with no respect for international law and the rights of nations and their peoples?
Report The Priest • December 12, 2009 9:22 PM GMT
Tevez is God

Is that the same brutal regime that is found in nearly every part of the globe?

Pratically every African country is just as bad, people starving in their millions whilst the leaders are flying around the world in their Jets, Central America and the death squads, wasn't it just in the news about Brazil i think and the number of people murdered by the police recently is at an obscene number.

The fact is that Blair took this country into an illegal war that has resulted in millions of innocent Iraqis murdered, let alone all the British troops and the troops of other countries that are present.

For what? to get rid of one man? one man that we have been supplying with weapons incl the chemical weapons he used on the kurds in the first place.

The billions of pounds this country has spent on this has had to be found somewhere hasn't it? Thats right who do you think has paid for this atrocity - the good ol bottomless pit (you can always get as much as you want) that is the taxpayer of this country.

At any other time in History the man would be indicted and sentanced as a war criminal, but since as its this country he will probaley get a knighthood.

Isn't it an offence of some kind to lie in front of parliament ?
I know that lots of ministers have resigned ( Profumo ? ) not for what they did but for lying about it in the House of Commons.

Saddam was powerless since the first Gulf War .......... the west flew regularly over Iraqi airspace.
His worst actions dated back to before the first Gulf War.

Blair decided it was worth the lives of countless innocent people to depose Saddam. Blair probably thought the invasion and the aftermath would be welcomed by the Iraqis.
The only other Blair initiative I remember was that of the police marching 'yobs' who had committed some minor street crime to the nearest cashpoint whereupon they would hand over the money to pay an onthespot fine. Something even the police could see was unworkable.
Report Tevez is God • December 13, 2009 12:03 AM GMT
yes, I probably should have it was a naive thread as opposed to ridiculous.

As far as your the priest's point goes, many of the other places where such atrocities are committed (and which I would also condemn) don't control vast oil supplies. I'm not saying blair was right or wrong, but I think there are plenty on this thread who are pillorying him simply because they have an irrational and hysterical hatred, no doubt tabloid-fuelled, of Labour.

Were they so vociferous when thatcher ordered the sinking of the belgrano which was outside the exclusion zone and heading away from it?

My point is that all politicians lie, or if you prefer, power corrupts etc. ...

Yes all politicians lie...they're people, neither perfectly good nor perfectly bad.

The power corrupts quote is IMO more interesting. Blair, when orchestrating the war, was in a staggering position of power - not only was his party enjoting unheard of electoral success, but within his party he was (IMO rightly) regarded as being responsbile for this.

For me, the Iraq war seems to be the actions of a man who believes himself above the views of those he represents, hence the lies.

I am not shocked at what he did nor do I expect an apology from him. I just think he is a c.unt - don't she how that is naive tbh. I am naive in so much as I don't know for sure what the reason for going there was - I don't inhabit the corridors of power so have to just work out what goes on there via papers, tv, internet or just people down the pub. Trouble is so many people are so sure they know the reason why he went to iraq (just look at this thread for starters) you'd think they were tony blair themselves, as far as I can see it could be:

a) Oil
b) So iraq could be re built after the bombings with US/UK companies getting the contracts
c) To spread democracy and depose a tyrant
d) Because blair was bush's poodle, and didn't havethe b.ollox to stand up to him
e) Something to do with israel and palestine and all that b.ollox to give the west a furter foothold in m.east
f) A genuine fear of WMD and what he could do with them.

f is the reason given though, and c was achieved, well nearly.

Why do people often think if you hate blair you must read the sun (which backed blair for a long long time) and be a mad thatcherite tory. I don't have an opinion on the belgrano and thatcher because she was in charge when i was from the age of 1yo to 12yo. So though I grew up with her I wasn't exactly a political heavyweight and dont know too much about what she did. Down south I know there are a lot of people who stick up for her - reckon she was right. Have barely met a northerner who didn't hate her with a passion. As far as I can see you had a pretty simple choice - capitalist tory thatcher or socialist labour kinnock. Then that c.unt blair came along and the choice was capitalist tory major or capitalist tory blair. I'm sure he didn't have to do that, he was bound to get in in 1997 without creating all this new labour b,.ollox.

1. WMD which could strike within 45 minutes. The inferrence being that they could strike here. When that was shown to be not true
2. The possession of WMD. and when that was shown to be not true it became
3. WMD programmes
The first time he mentions WMD programmes in public he almost mumbles the " programmes" bit as even he seemes embarressed to say it.

2. Blair assured us that there were weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them to Israel - which if true could (just) be a valid reason to go in- if you stretch a point or two.

Well- there weren't - so why didn't Blair resign?

He was quite happy to have his ministers resign when a mistake was made in their respective ministries- so why the double standards- both he and Bush should be ashamed of themselves - but less so Bush who at least had the excuse of Daddy wanting him to go and finish it 10 years later.
