Always worth a watch but ffs didn't C4 have it on all of 8 or 9 weeks ago?

Seems to have become the film equivalent of U2 - very good, but for some reason it has suddenly become trendy for the 'Oh I can't be seen to be uncool and mainstream' sheep to knock it.

Watched it for the second time last night and enjoyed it more than the first because questions which pooped up first time round were answered within the film.

great film. nothing like U2 - they are sh.it.

---------------

Or some people might ACTUALLY find it over-rated?

Maybe for some, which is fine of course - each to their own. It's just the film is fifteen years old and knocking it for being corny ext only seems to have been a recent bandwagon to jump on.

I must confess I find it bewildering that Shawshank is held in such esteem by men. Because of the sentimental angle you would think they would not be keen. But then again they like buddy movies, like One flew over the Cuckoo's nest. I found it quite good but thought the sentimental parts were highly unlikely in an american prison!
Report Shrew D • December 13, 2009 10:54 AM GMT
It was also a relative flop at the box office. It gained a following by word of mouth since. Emperors New Clothes, some might say.

That has happened with a few films, The Blues Brothers probably the biggest example. I think Shawshank is a good film, but as prison films go I prefer Brubaker, which seems to be a bit underrated.

Things are fashionable, then they are unfashionable then they become retro fashionable again. Sure things like the office and shawshank and hopefully not U2 will become retro fashionable again, though they are out of favour atm.

I still think trainspotting is one of the best films i've ever seen.
Report positively4thsteet • December 13, 2009 11:11 AM GMT
I didn't think it was particularly sentimental. I thought the method of escape was brilliant too.

absolutely spot on, i've said before that it requires more than one viewing, particularly as, although the acting is superb, it can be hard at times to grasp what andy and red are saying.

Fantastic film. Best ever.

Seen it many times now, first time at the cinema but probably enjoyed it as much second time around on the small screen.
I can understand that its not everyones cup of tea.
Though I still rate Midnight Express more highly

great film

not sure the 22 set of advert breaks added to the enjoyment much....
Report redrich • December 13, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
Thought it was ok but is the most overrated film of all time imo
Report Jayco • December 13, 2009 3:35 PM GMT
