'A friend' use to have his own gardening company, and found in the first couple of years with the tax laws being so unfair,( in as much as you have to pay in advance for the first 18 months, as this is when most business's fail and the government like to get in before the creditors) that topping up with cash was the only way to make it worthwhile and to earn a reasonable wage.

Saturday every week in an independent bookies, and it paid more than any shop manager gets for his Saturday, and we never opened on Saturday nights. Open 9-30 a.m. and closed 15 minutes after the last afternoon race, with the latest closing time being 6-30 p.m. in the summer.

Did a 5 month contract in Fords at Dagenham for a company based in Rainham.

Looked after a few pubs for a security company based in Siitngbourne. They were all Courage houses in the home counties.

Im the late 80s I did two small jobs for a company I used to work for in the early 80s, and I charged them more than they paid their supervisor who took over from me when I left. He was off sick, so just for good measure I left the petty cash receipt in his desk. :^0
