MyDefrag
CCleaner Just basically defragment it with MyDefrag and clean the carp off it with CCleaner. PC's tend to run slow if you randomly download garbage off the interent without knowing what it is. |

I use those two. It's not that it runs slow but takes longer and longer to boot up.

have you been adding progs that fire up when your pc boots up ?
as thats the biggest cause ... your anti-virus often does that for starters ... it has a set time to operate ...say 3am ...but if your pc is switched off at that time then the automatic default is to operate + run upon boot up...obv to protect you from nasties .. ... |

You can set certain programs/processes not to run at start up.
Disable the Windows boot logo. That might save you some time. All I do is look after my PC. Regular CCleaner and defrags and not installing unwated stuff. |

You probably have stuff that kick in when you start up that can be disabled. On ccleaner, press tools, then startup and see whats on there.
You might be surprised. |

another way to find out is :-
type in msconfig that gets you into the prog then press the start up tab and that tells you what starts up at boot only untick those progs you know dont affect your start up and then press apply . |

Joe Jordan's advice is good, you should not need more than 7 or 8 programs to run automatically on startup.
I had a lot of troble with trojans yesterday, and even when removed the PC seemed to be running slow. I have discovered that using chdsk is a great way to improve performace if the hard dsk has a few corrupted files, as mine had. do the command prompt as for msconifg but instead type cmd you'll get an old fashioned DOS screen like we had in the 1980s Then type chkdsk /f I takes a long time to run this, like 40-60 mins, and you cant do anything else whilst that is happening, so a Saturday afternoon is not the best time to run it! |
