As a kid, I used to watch Laurel and Hardy (early talkies), and Tom and Jerry, on the TV especially in the mornings of School holidays. This would have been late 1960's early 70's. So they were made 35 years before.

Now, if my kids get to watch say, The Flintstones or the Addams Family or Star Trek, which were made in the early-mid 60's, the stuff they're watching is 45 years old.
45 years before 1971 there wasn't even sound on film, let alone TV shows to watch!

As for watching a show like Bilko.... Well, it was twice as long between when Bilko was made and now, as it was between when L+H were at their peak, and Bilko being made.

Does this make you feel old too?

The first known public exhibition of projected sound films took place in Paris in 1900, but decades would pass before reliable synchronization was made commercially practical.

a lot of misconceptions about film

there was decent colour film as far back as the 20s

This has nothing to do with the thread either, but is simply the most wonderful colour film of London in the 1920's

I think you'll find that Laurel and Hardy weren't doing "Talkies" before 1928.
Not, as you say, that the history of cinema has ANYTHING to do with this thread, nor that anything I've said was incorrect.
