Labour MP Diane Abbott is a contender to be the party’s candidate for mayor of London in 2016, it has been announced.

The veteran leftwinger said she would campaign on standing up to “motorist propaganda”, as well championing the rights of cyclists in in the capital.

“A great many people have been pressing me for some time to throw my hat in the ring and in the end I decided that because London needs a genuinely independent candidate, London needs a candidate that will fight to make London safer for cyclists,” she said.

Ms Abbott is a familiar sight pedalling to the House of Commons and made headlines during the summer when her charity ascent of l'Alpe d'Huez had to be aborted following a wardrobe malfunction.

I've never heard one single report of her cycling to work. Was this after she lostthe job as Minister for Health.

But if she does, that's her own fault as 'London taxi drivers don't stop for black people.' and added 'and my obese arse doesn't fit on a London bus seat, so it's cycle or walk.'

Wardrobe malfunction?!?!?!?

Her enormous fat arse split open a bell tent from Army & Navy stores, as there were no cycling shorts large enough, they only go up to XXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Imagine cycling downwind of that heading towards the sun, you'd be in  dark shadow.

"London needs a candidate that will fight to make London safer for cyclists,” she said.

My advice would be that the last place anyone needs to be on a push bike is in London

If you manage to avoid being run over by a lorry its about 20 on that your lungs will be destroyed by fumes

from traffic ...

She really is a bit dim, London is clearly not and is never going to be a safe place for cyclists, what that doughnut Boris was doing bringing in the bike scheme I'll never know, but riling motorists and pandering to cyclists is one sure fire way of condemning herself to defeat before she's even started, when Cyclists stop riding through lights and on pavements they might gain more respect, they belong in the countryside not in a city full of millions of heavy machinery travelling 10 times faster then them and expecting them to give way

Given a Choice of an Abbott lookalike or a blonde haired blue eyed Finnish girl as a nurse ,I suggest a high percentage of black men would vote for the latter ..

Perhaps Diane was influenced in favour of the cycling public in her time studying at Cambridge.

Flabbott's bike may only do 3mph, but most go a lot faster.

All shades of noCrazy You must have trouble reading posts in order burton, if you look above he was being so pedantic he tried to take something that even a primary school child wouldn't take in it's literal sense, in general he's not used to his artificial 'facts' being challenged and so throws a strop, he knows where the block button isWink

For the 'umpteenth' time, I spend 99% of my time on here using the Classic forum, where there is no 'block' button.

So you can chip away as much as you like, when I stop responding you'll know I got fed up being trolled and I'm ignoring you.

And before you go down another familiar road to you and a few others, I don't do 'meltdowns'.

Ever.

I can't find any pictures of Ms Abbott's wardrobe malfunction on l'Alpe d'Huez. I'm starting to wonder whether some aspects of that story in the Guardian might be fabricated.
