Two young girls who falsely accused an innocent man of being a paedophile are 'responsible' for his death from a heart attack, his widow said today.
Debbie Davies, 43, said the people who subjected her husband, 63-year-old Bryan Davies, to months of abuse are 'nasty individuals' with 'nothing between their ears'. And she vowed that his funeral cortege will pass their homes to show the result of their actions.
Mrs Davies said her husband had fought in vain to clear his name after two schoolgirls falsely accused him in indecently touching them in the summer. She is convinced the abuse sparked his heart attack.
'The doctor told me my husband died of a massive heart attack,' Mrs Davies said. 'As far as I am concerned those girls are responsible for what happened to Bryan. 'I have no doubt whatsoever that this hate campaign is to blame and that it killed him.' The couple, who have no children of their own, suffered vandalism and threats after the two girls falsely made their accusations.
But after police investigated, their story was dismissed by officers.
The couple said the girls made up the story after they refused to allow a 'sleepover' at their house or let them walk their dog. Police in Accrington, Lancashire, even went as far as handing out leaflets to locals in the neighbourhood to officially state the allegations as 'false and without any foundation whatsoever'. But a brick through the window, slashed car tyres and constant shouts of 'paedo' and 'pervert' every time they left the house increased the stress, Mrs Davies said. The girls were not prosecuted and police continued to monitor the situation. Mrs Davies, originally from Bexhill, East Sussex, said local police had been 'brilliant' with increased patrols leading to a drop-off in abuse. And the couple moved homes to another street in the town recently but malicious rumours spread and the hate-mob followed.
Mr Davies, originally from the Cardigan Bay area of Wales, had a brick thrown the window of his house last week.
'They are just nasty individuals,' Mrs Davies said. 'They have got nothing between their ears, they are morons.' Last Friday evening Mr Davies was taken hospital with a kidney problem but slipped into unconsciousness and died. In an interview with his local paper shortly before his death, Mr Davies said: 'The police are not willing to prosecute these girls or tackle the people intimidating us.
'I won't give in. It'll probably kill me, but I won't run away with my tail between my legs. If the girls had been prosecuted, none of this would be going on.
'Mud sticks. I'm being persecuted and rumours are still being spread. We want the police to prosecute these girls. I want to clear my name.' Police confirmed they made 'reassurance visits' to Mr Davies's house on November 29 and again on December 1. A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said a decision had been made not to prosecute the girls because of their ages and instead officers had chosen to deal with them in a more informal manner with the help of social services. Inspector David Mangan said: 'Our neighbourhood policing teams have been working closely with Mr Davies and his wife throughout and every complaint has been taken very seriously.
'This is obviously a very sad time for Mr Davies's family and we are continuing to provide support for them.'

Have I missed something here?
