If you have a glass of iced water and the ice melts the water level doesnt rise , so why should the sea levels rise when and if the ice caps melt?

It only rises when ice on land melts. It also expands due to thermal expansion. The rise, so far, has mainly been due to expansion. Hope that clears things up.

Then you're either thick or a rather boring fisherman.

most of the ice is not sitting in the sea (unlike the icecubes in yr drink). its on land so obviously if it melts and flows to the sea then levels will rise

this has to be fishing

but

defrost your fridge. Imagine that your frindge is on top of a land mass (ie the antarctic continent or the matterhorn)
your kitchen is the sea
