Sorry this is a bit complicated but here goes

6 years ago my wife and I bought a small business. We employed an acountant who advised us to declare to the child tax credit people we were earning £52k because we had no idea what we were going to earn.We actually earned £20k that year and received £4k of child tax credits. Now years later we have the tax ofice chasing us for the £4k because of the form that said we expected to earn ?£52k

We have proved to them we earned no where near the £52k but they have a time limit whereby we can appeal and we have passed it.But they didnt contact us untill now about it

Now we do have the money to pay but surely they cant come back 6 years on and say we cant appeal?

Anyone know what to do next?

SURELY YOU WOULD HAVE GOT MORE CREDITS IF YOU EARNED LESS THAN
THE 52K YOU QUOTED

The Night Watchman there's a lot of tax evaders on the political forum. a lot on there seems to know more about tax than you do.

different matter when there is a union willing to call for a strike which would cripple and embaress the governments collection of tax
