im a touch clueless about these things.. and my mother has said she wants a decent one for xmas.. now i dont want to spend more than a ton on one.. ive got her other things but her screen is fking up..

any of you chit chatters know what the best is for it? she dont play games etc just basic enough use..

I wouldn't pay over £100 for a 19" monitor personally.

You can get this....22" Viewsonic VA2226W, Widescreen Monitor, 5 ms, DVI-D/VGA, 1680x1050, 2000:1... for about £10 more.

Yes I know you said not over a ton. £10 for another 3 inches is well worth it in my opinion! :)
