I believe it helps if you are a **sexual, lovey.

A lot of posters on here pretend to be human with some - but not total - success.
Report pox doctors clerk • December 6, 2009 9:44 PM GMT
you have to be a ** just to get an audition
Report dk1986 • December 6, 2009 9:47 PM GMT
I could act if I wrote the script, but otherwise no. Expect that's the same for most. Ricky Gervais hadn't had a lesson prior to The Office, I think I'm right in saying.
Report Sir Denis Eton-Hogg • December 6, 2009 10:28 PM GMT
if you go to see a play at the theatre u will realise its a skill
Report STUDYFORM • December 6, 2009 10:29 PM GMT
I think its a skill some people either have, or don't. Not a trained thing, although training must improve the innate skills.
Report tobermory • December 6, 2009 10:30 PM GMT
Ricky Gervais plays himself though

You only have to watch Eastenders or Coranation St for 2 minutes to realize , no, its not something anyone can do.
Report Sir Denis Eton-Hogg • December 6, 2009 10:31 PM GMT
its like any skill. anyone can do it if they want to do it and are willing to practise it a lot

To be fair it's evident.
Report Sir Denis Eton-Hogg • December 6, 2009 10:35 PM GMT
ricky g had done lots of performing/stand-up etc before the office
Report Dobbo • December 6, 2009 10:36 PM GMT
Watch Daniel Day Lewis in anything he's in. The film may be crap but he is compelling. Likewise Johnny Depp and earlier Ian Richardson or Paul Scholfield. Its a laudable and rare talent.

Its a laudable and rare talent.

isnt it just, luvvy darling
Report bodil • December 6, 2009 10:39 PM GMT
But always remember they are actors - not their characters. They are (mostly) not smart, resourceful, far-sighted, brave, sensitive. Think Ronald Reagan.
Report Dobbo • December 6, 2009 10:43 PM GMT
Smart & resourceful are pre-requisites. The rest doesn't matter Bodil.
Dennis, Sir. You either get it or you don't.
Report Tevez is God • December 6, 2009 10:44 PM GMT
Depp and Richardson a good shout
Report Guitarist • December 6, 2009 11:35 PM GMT
Watch say:

Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight
De Niro in Raging Bull
Denzel Washington in Malcolm X
Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront

Then watch Eastenders or Corrie

Then I believe you may have your question answered
Report Guitarist • December 6, 2009 11:36 PM GMT
Also Daniel Day Lewis in just about anything
Report bodil • December 6, 2009 11:38 PM GMT
My point was - do not confuse actors with reality.

And don't confuse my posts with alcohol.
Report Dobbo • December 6, 2009 11:42 PM GMT
What the fck is reality? Acting is just another window/
Report Brodie • December 6, 2009 11:42 PM GMT
Actors are pretenders.
Do not revere them ,look at them and go ahh.
Report Petrus Romanus • December 6, 2009 11:43 PM GMT
actors are c0ck all without a decent script imo.
Report Brodie • December 6, 2009 11:45 PM GMT
by definition ,that is what they are. fronts for other peoples ideas and emotions.

I love you all.
Report Brodie • December 6, 2009 11:47 PM GMT
finish the sentence
Report Dobbo • December 6, 2009 11:47 PM GMT
It all has to come together, script, acting, direction for perfection but that doesn't mean that a great performance is somehow lacking because the other ingredients are not there.Case in point There Will Be Blood. Its a flawed film but DDL is superb.
Report Brodie • December 6, 2009 11:47 PM GMT
farking timing

As the next piece of evidence to prove anyone can do it, I offer you:

Mr Danny Dyer

Seems to be manifested as sighing or shouting nowadays.
Report Velasquez • December 7, 2009 1:09 PM GMT
Some of the best films have used first timers, non-actors, amateurs, etc. Robert Bresson and Pasolini films, etc.
Report Tony Broke • December 7, 2009 3:24 PM GMT
not a skill at all and u dont need any training, just watch ken loache's films, most of the talent on show are inexperienced ordinary people...
natural actors are far better than likes of the luvvies who spend lifetimes playing shakespeare
Report Coachbuster • December 7, 2009 4:42 PM GMT
A skill ... i remember taking a small part in the village play years ago ,and it become apparant who had talent and who didnt .
Report Capt__F • December 7, 2009 4:54 PM GMT
were u the front or back of the cow coach ?
Report popup • December 7, 2009 5:26 PM GMT
Definately a skill. Don't go by what you see in the soaps. Go to the theatre.
Report cooperman • December 8, 2009 10:47 AM GMT
High levels of skill required for the 'Scottish Play'.
Report Velasquez • December 8, 2009 11:04 PM GMT
Theatre acting is a skill.

Film ---- Marlon Brando could eat most of the Philippines, then sit in a dark corner, farting and mumbling for five million bucks.
