I saw them at T In The Park this summer. I wasn't expecting much and only went on the recommendation of a girl I met there. I mut say I was pleasantly surprised. They were very good and Florence Welch can drink like a fish. She was taking bottles of coke out of the crowd, which were full of vodka/Jack Daniels and downing them. She must've went through about 4 or 5 of the 500ml bottles.

Are they any good really?

I am always suspicious of bands with a female frontwoman. Not because that's a bad thing but because it is a fact that bands with a female frontwoman get some sort of disproportionate hype and coverage because a) there is some sort of novelty factor and b) many editors and reporters are either pervs or camp as feck.

Anyway, not heard loads from these but what I have heard has been uninspiring to me. I have however seen a disproportionae amount of publicity and various **s on tv gushing over her (not the music or the band). Plus a fair few proclaimations like Banquo's above regarding what a great geezer bird she is.

All of which, even though it may be unfair, makes me a bit suspicious and wonder whether they would get the same gushing if the unknown Jarvis**er was their front person..

Eg: the Leeds/Reading coverage of them that I saw featured a very average, ropey old song where the performance focused more on her climbing a scaffold and wearing a stupid outfit than the music and a lengthy interview where she was desperate to appear a bit wacky and they marvelled at her because she threw some cakes to some fans and, well, didn't do much else but it was, like, well cool and she's a legend and stuff.

I feel I am being harsh but if I am I blame it on the media image projected.

LF, the first I heard of her was when Channel 4 played out of their racing coverage one afternoon recently with a song by her.
It was very good, so I looked it up on YouTube.
Tonight's performance was only the 2nd or 3rd song I've heard from the band and I think they've been okay. I do like the harp, very much, though. A great addition to 'pop' music.

This is the song I first heard, which I really liked: Dog Days Are Over:

Fair comments, LF.

What I would say is that I'm in agreement that they've received a whole lot of press coverage, possibly to the expense of other bands who are about just now. However, my surprise at how good they were was more to do with the a) her voice (which really is excellent when you hear it live, and b) the band being 'tight', as it were. Not necessarily the songs that they were playing but how they played them.

Since that gig, I've heard their album and some of the songs are good, some are ok and some are shiit. But what any band worth their salt should be able to do is put on a performance, and when I saw them they did this, irrespective of any drinking or scaffold drinking.

And they wouldn't get the same coverage if Jarvis**er was the lead singer, probably because Jarvis**er can't sing like she does. In anycase, I think he's still too busy recovering from his embarrassing appearance on Question Time to front another band.

Yes, it was Rabbit Heart, Roger.
It was a good show. Well worth watching the extended version on Friday night.

Changed my mind somewhat.

The gushing to$$ers comments still stands imo but I've heard a bit more and don't mind it.

Fecking awful wardrobe though. Full of 1930s swim suits. Most unflattering.
