Bought my son a 3 PAYG mobile for Christmas, they have a decent internet allowance. Can I connect it to his netbook and use it for mobile broadband? Any idea's how to go about this?

With O2 you can get away with it as long as you don't take the píss even though they tell you you can't.

Dunno about 3.

they are crap....

i tried the nokia n95 8g which is a good phone..

you would be better with a mobile dongle if he is using it on the go or connect him to your home network that you are using to psot this message

You can Ovalman.

As long as you didn't buy a monochrome mobile worth about £19.99, you probably received a suite to install on a computer, and a lead to link the mobile up to the laptop. Install the suite (piece of pisz), link the two up, and away you go.

I've got unlimited internet with '3', and can browse on my laptop with close to a 200kbps connection through my mobile. You need a good signal, so if you're in the sticks it's probably not worth it.

I have a 3 dongle (cost me a fiver) but I've never used it. Would rather not keep switching the sim every time he wants to use it. I was hoping to use the phone as a router, is this achievable and how do I do it?

Thanks Dk, that was the answer I wanted. 3 have a good signal where I live so it shouldn't be a problem. I think there's a 3GB allowance, as long as he stays off youtube etc. he won't use it all.

Just have to link the two up via the lead. You maybe can link up via bluetooth, but I'm not aware of this. I think bluetooth between a laptop and mobile is mainly for synchronising (dates and contacts etc) purposes, but I can't say I've done a lot of exploring in that respect.

Yeah, stay off video-streaming sites so you don't breach their "fair usage" policy. Likes of Wikipedia and betfair you could stay on all day.

My brother bought a Dongle for his Daughters laptop, they both used it in Spain for 2 weeks, supposed to pay £20 a month, Orange Never capped the useage and he got a bill for £300, Dont think they have used it much since.
