My PC used to load and play games but now no longer seems to. I have tried several games and nothing seems to load or be read and the D: drive says insert disk.

However when I put a CD in it reads and plays this so I am very confused!

Any ideas please?

Drive gone floppy, imo.

Some games need you to have the original disk in the DVD drive as you play.

Are you fishing Mr? :)

The original disc is in but nothing happens. The game doesn't load and when I go into D: drive it says 'please insert disc.' As I said my p.c will read and play a CD but not the computer games and I am very confused :(

Ok it loaded an old game called stable masters, but not Football Manager 2009 or Thief

Have you got autoplay turned on?

If not, whatever is in your drive will not be detected automatically. You'll need to double click on it to start.

double clicked and it doesn't read it, the message 'insert disc pops up.' I have Windows XP and both games should play on it I think?

Maybe the disks or drive are broken

Are they DVD disks but only a CD drive?

Noticed the front cover of Thief says DVD ROM. Is this the usual CD ROM. The Footy manager says 'Games for Windows' - I have windows XP so surely that should be ok? The drive isn't broken but not sure why the CD's aren't being read, both new and in pristine condition and bought separately?

What does it say on your drive? Does it have a DVD logo? Or just a CD logo

Yep, you probably have CD drive and not a DVD drive. I know that FM 2009 uses DVD,
