Having just picked up the papers and caught up with the news i notice that England have got a reasonably tricky WC first round group yet it appears our overpaid pompadous only have to turn up and collect the trophy?

I know this is the wrong forum but the football forum is more interested in saying "job done" and tipping up 1/5 at home shots,(and they dont ever lose over there either)

In my view this current England side is no better than "good"an di'd put the likes of Brazil,Argies,Spain,Port,France.italy,Krauts at least a notch up on us.This Eng team looks the worse i've seen in a final in 30+ years.Rooney (on his day)apart where are our world class players capable of the magic that can turn a game and wins world cups? We dont even have a settled keeper, yet we're looking to frighten the world with darren**crouchy, wes brown!(lol!) and maybe even Heskey ffs! Muc as i'd love us to win do these players REALLY deserve to called the best team in the world??

You're post seemed quite sensible until you said you'd put France and Portugal above us. Have you watched much International football lately? :^0

I believe man for man France and Portugal could comfortably keep an england side at bay and each have about 5 players who would walk into the ENG side.Do we have 5 players who could wal into ANY international side.Lamps might make a side like Germany and Rooney would be on the bench with most teams and Ashley Cole could probs slip into most sides, that apart i think it's stinking mediocrity.

Im not saying the eng side is carp,it's not and i wouldnt expect them to be beat off any old pony but the likes of Slovenia who gave us a v good game in the friendly and USA and Algeria are all capable of getting draws and leaving things quite tricky.

Anyway it;s not so much that it's the crazed media belief that we're 2nd fav's purely on merit!! we're 2nd favs' due to many of the above having very patchy qualifying tournys inc the argies.I guess this is nothing new though and a summer of gargantuan build up followed by crushing dissapoinment awaits i fear.

Bon Viv - France's biggest disadvantage is Domenech is still in charge, and the players hate him. Portugal however really are a one man team going forward - you telling me Gerrard, Barry, Lampard, Joe Cole and even Becks wouldn't get a game before the likes of Simao, Deco and Nani?

Morning paper worked it out that
England would stroll through the group
Play serbia in the Last 16 + smash them
Then prob France in the QF inal , who couldnt beat the Irish in normal time over two legs !!
So its a minimum of Semi finals for us :D :D

People who say we "cannot" win are a disgrace to the nation.

people who say we "will" win are delusional.

people who say we "can" win are realistic.

I remember everyone saying that we would never win the rugby world cup.
I remember everyone saying we couldn't win the ashes.
I remember everyone saying that GB would struggle to make the top 10 in the olympics.

now can everyone shut the fk up.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we have a pretty easy group all things told.

Hopefully us and Germany don't fek it up so we will play Australia or Ghana or Serbia in 2nd round. All decent teams, but still, gotta be happy with that. QF we will play against the best of group A (france, SA or Mexico?) or the 2nd in group B (Nigeria, SK or Greece) can't really argue with that. v.v.good chance of making Semis.

I am sure one of Brazil or Spain will not make it to the qfs. Spain to play Brazil or Portugal in 2nd round?

Lots of ifs and maybes, but it looks perfect to me.

REckon we'll win it, weather won't be too hot which should help us. No major injuries and we're laughing

:D

Never stop believing. Thinking England will lose doesn't serve a purpose imo.

Every W Cup, Euro C/ship, Olympics, the papers and media do the same thing.
England were lucky to get to the final in 1966, and other than that have won nothing.

But it sells papers.
If an editor allowed "We've got no chance" to go in print, the backlash could cost money.

We as a sporting nation are not the best. We're OK. but not the best - yet so much umbrage is taken at the merest suggestion of this fact. If I had money, I'd lay England outright, and for each match, and for the group.

If I could lay the bookies prices, then i'd lay every price everywhere full stop.

Obviously.

Study: would you have layed England every game in the qualifying stages? How much would you have won then?

Don't get so upset, Pos. We're entitled to our opinions aren't we?

In the qualifiers against andorra, you mean - which they needed to win to get to the finals?
We won't win. We never do, and my thinking so makes no fecking difference to the outcome.

course you're entitled to your opinions. We have won the world cup though, so saying "we won't win, we never do" doesn't really stand up to scrutiny does it!!!. Spain and Holland are too brilliant teams (now and in the past) but they've never won the world cup. iT IS NOt a very easy thing to win believe it or not. We are one of only 7 teams that have ever won it. Fair play to Germany and Italy, they have done very very well to win it so many times between them. Brazil are just awesom.

Of course we can win it. scoring penalties in shoot outs would help obviously

Do you mean blindly supporting your team doesn't serve a purpose? as in it doesn't help? Why then does the home team always have an advantage in virtually every sport? I think it is because psychology has a massive part to play in sport, and if a team knows they have a lot of people behind them then they do a lot better.
