Cancer
AIDS Those three bands |
By:
The Smiths - utterly unique, dozens of great songs
Stone Roses - one great album Oasis - completely derivative |
By:
Good point angryfire, silly me. Just above the Roses but probably below Oasis.

Seen the inspirals 5 times, Mondays 3, Oasis and Smiths and Roses...never....wish id seen the Smiths and Roses too.....one of my only regrets in life that money cant buy for me.

The Stone Roses
The Smiths Oasis |

Well I saw the Smiths once, Mondays once (on form for once, at the Hacienda), Oasis twice and The Charlatans last year, still a class act. Just think in terms of the way music changes things there is little to rival the Smiths, to me the Mondays were the 80's/90's equivalent to the Sex Pistols but the Smiths were like nobody before. The Roses and Oasis were always imo standing on the shoulders of giants.

Saw the carpets once in Gloucester but I was a bit p1ssed, EMF were there too so a bad night was had by all. Good studio band though, love Saturn 5 and Caravan.
By:
I did see the La's at their peak too. Awesome, but dated I suppose. i
By:
Saturn 5 and Caravan, yeah. Loved everything they did...Clint and Tom..heroes to me...Only saw Mr Ryder when he was whacked.....and in those days, I just thought it was the red stripe he was holding.....how little did I know.

Smiths
Roses Oasis Very easy decision |
By:
1. Smiths (genius vocals, lyrics & guitar riffs, split up at just the right time)
2. Stone Roses (fantastic, creative, debut album, but burnt out too quickly) 3. Oasis (good, but ultimately nothing more than Beatles copyists with attitude) |

Im with Alex ^

By:
so angryfire, question back, if you put the carpets, the mondays and the charlatans in there what would your order be?
By:
I don't know the inspiral carpets much but of the 5, i'd go:-
Smiths Roses Charlatans Mondays Oasis |
By:
Well I would be like this:
The Smiths Inspiral Carpets The Stone Roses Happy Mondays The Charlatans Oasis I think the Smiths have to win cos they were the most prefectly timed band ever......they were needed....and still stand up today. They will go down in history, the others (some of em) will just be remembered. |
By:
Agree with the top choice and yoursummary obviously. Mozza continues to be supreme live. But please please please listen to Pills Chills and Bellyaches again and again and again before you demote the Mondays so easily.
:) |

Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches, not Chills!
