Light and leave for 10 minutes then put bigger logs on.

Or just douse the whole thing in petrol :)

Get chimneys swept before lighting any fires.

(Unless previous occupants regularly use the fireplaces)

about £1 for a bag of kindling and £2.50 for a bag of logs, are your fires back to back with 2 chimneys separated by feathers and then merging into one.?

I pay £20 for a ton of hardwood offcuts.

Prices vary vastly, depends where you live.
