i dated a veggie for sometime, the anguish when you go out for dinner and order meat, you know they want to eat meat but their soap-box political views on animal cruelty take over!
Report Bamboo December 3, 2009 2:34 PM GMT
they tend to look very gaunt and grey almost ill like.

Report Pokermonster December 3, 2009 2:55 PM GMT
No, I do not year for any of those things.

Maybe I did when I first became vegetarian, but I can't honestly remember as it was twenty-five years ago.
Report Pokermonster December 3, 2009 2:56 PM GMT
*yearn.

I'm often not that hungry by the time I have dished up a pork roast as I have chuffed down every last bit of crackling as soon as it comes out of the oven. Heavenly stuff, especially with any jellyish fat scraped off and replaced with a smear of apple sauce. Magic stuff.

Roger: you would probably enjoy the Long Pig Festival in South Molton. You've just missed this year's event but it might be worth putting in your diary for 2010.

A word of warning however: dress down and don't wash for a week. Those hill people ain't too fussy when the chanting hits full swing and if you look too much like an outsider you could be in hot water.

morrissey surprisngly not mentioned so far. most veggies i know were inspired by him.

The Long Pig Festival? Tell me more.

At the moment I'm just picturing that scene from Deliverance and it's not instantly making me reach for the diary.

Albert Einstein - a bit, towards the end of his life.

"Although I have been prevented by outward circumstances from observing a strictly vegetarian diet, I have long been an adherent to the cause in principle. Besides agreeing with the aims of vegetarianism for aesthetic and moral reasons, it is my view that a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind." Translation of letter to Hermann Huth, December 27, 1930."
Report Pokermonster December 3, 2009 3:38 PM GMT
The long pig is a person, Roger. One recently deceased member of the clan that let it be known they wished to be eaten so the story goes, but I have my doubts. As I said, I know these people and when they work themselves up into a frenzy it's not pretty

Supposedly tastes just like roast pork by the way, but I should take your own apple sauce.

I've been a vegetarian for 25 years and I'm not gaunt either.

My farts do have an occasional slight aroma though.
