Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:11 PM GMT
Quiet journalist in new influential legal decision

P = quiet. journalist = ed. new = recent. ed inside recent = precedent.
Report Paulie Walnuts • December 2, 2009 6:11 PM GMT
Yeah I spelt recede wrong.. thanks guys, I'm Finnish.
Report sparkmaster. • December 2, 2009 6:11 PM GMT

Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:13 PM GMT
p always means quiet - thnk it might be a musical term. pianissimo?
Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:14 PM GMT
yep = influential legal decison is a precedent.

always a cryptic bit and a straight bit to every (i think) clue.

Otherwise would be very very hard
Report DDuck • December 2, 2009 6:14 PM GMT
ok ta
Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:14 PM GMT

Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:27 PM GMT
I hate to admit it, but the telegraph is prob the easiest of the major ones. Times harder and the Guardian even harder and the Independent the hardest of the lot.
Report Paulie Walnuts • December 2, 2009 6:28 PM GMT
that's superb.
Eggcellent
sorry.
Report sparkmaster. • December 2, 2009 6:28 PM GMT

Report Paulie Walnuts • December 2, 2009 6:30 PM GMT
Yeah Indo's a **ker
Express is good for getting used to how they work.. I'd say I could finish it 1/3 of the time, and normally get to within 3 or 4 clues of finishing.
With the Telegraph I probably get half-way on average.. very ocasionally finish it.
The others, I'd be happy getting 10 answers
Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:33 PM GMT
TElegraph now has a "toughie" which is a step up I suppose, but I still generally speaking know what the gist of the clue is, but don't know the actual word or the references - a bit more historical detail or stuff about operas and that which I haven't a clue on.

Guardian/Independent are just different gravy. I haven't a clue what they're on about. perhaps I need a tutor.

Sparky - which crosswords do you do?
Report sparkmaster. • December 2, 2009 6:38 PM GMT
I don't get papers any more but used to do the guardian. Their just a little more twisted than the telegraph and times, you can really find yourself SEETHING when you finally get one, as it's so obvious...and yet not so! The Telegrpah at times seems like it's been done by a computer.
Report positively4thsteet • December 2, 2009 6:46 PM GMT
I know what you mean sparky. One day I might "step up" to the guardian or at least the times. Trouble is I hate the papers themselves - but the telegraph has the best sports coverage.
Report TambourineMan. • December 2, 2009 6:56 PM GMT
You can do the Independent interactively online...here

http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/puzzles/crosswords/cryptic/

I pay $10 pm for Press Display you can read all the UK papers as replica copies plus most World papers.
I print out the Sunday Telegraph crossword every week.
