Its rubbish that if you move into a house, and there is a water meter installed that the water compamies won't let you pay by ratebale value, all because someone before asked for a meter to be installed.I have always been used to paying water by ratebale value.so someone has fkd it up for me.

Thats what the Literature says
The person who installs the water Meter has 12 months to change their mind ..
the Next buyer of the House has NO choice , its water meter ..
backed by Govt Legislation .
By MP's who later have Honorary Board places on the water Companies drawing £30k per annum for attending one meeting per year ..

Its the same with the Banks , the MP's Gravy train when they leave Govt , a self perpetuating income source on the "you scratch my back + I'll scratch yours " theme ...
The New MP's perpetuate it so the old MP's can get it , then when they leave Govt they join + get it,and the New MP's keep it going for when it's their turn ...ad nauseum !!

I still don't understand,i have told the water compnay to come and read the meter when i moved in,and if or when i decide to leave, then take the meter reading again.I said surely as a new customer of this property why can't i pay the rateable value, because everyone in the street is not on meter,so why can't i have a choice. They said once a meter is installed it can't be changed,i said i have never lived in house where there was a water meter,so what it will be thin air,so it will have no affect on me,cause i have always paid buy rates. But they just insist on you have to pay by meter,to hell with them i say..
There should be a choice if you want to pay by meter or rates, some people prefer meter, and some prefer rates.I am in a no win situation.

Van Basten - the intention is to get to a position where a household pays for what it uses. Why should an elderly lady living alone, my mum say, pay the same as a household of two adults and two kids.
Once meters are in - they stay for ever.

Ivor it was not the water companys intention, because someon else asked. If say my bill is 500 p/a and there is 3 living in household on a meter, and next door there is a family of 8 and they pay 300 p/a paying by rates, is that fair?

Actually their intention is to milk you for every penny they can get ..
People are afraid to flush loos , in water meter houses coz of the cost .

Of course it's not afair - but they can't afford to introduce compulsory meters to every home - so it's one step at a time for the moment. You may recall the trouble when the Tories tried to introduce the much fairer poll-tax.

The bill in my new/current house was £720 a year.I got a meter installed promptly. It will now equate to around £200/250 a year now.
getting water butts is a must for the garden.
Meters should be compulsary imo.To stop ignorant people wasting water.

About £320/year. Which to me seems a rip off for something that falls from the sky for nothing on a regular basisi. It is truly free money for the water companies. Charge for it, then garge a percentage of usage for sewage!!
By:

When: 01 Dec 09 13:30
Its not free. Who pays for all the pipes and for making the water drinkable?

I was making a light hearted point Jimmy. The actual raw material is collected (not manufactured) and if some money was spent improving leakage rates then water bills would fall. Mine has roughly doubled in 5 years and I am on a meter

£27 a month on a meter.

Ripped out the bath, put in a shower, installed a dual flush toilet cistern, don't leave taps running in the kitchen, and don't water the lawns, back or front.
