I'm presuming these are "aids" symbols or something? is it aids day or something or is something else? I know most luvvies are bummers but seems everyone on tv tonight is wearing one of the things.

So it's national aids day on dec 1st i presume?

I was vaguely aware of them having some day years ago when i managed a gay bar for 2 years but oddly dont remember the ribbon wearing malarkey.Perhaps the common and garden pooftah doesn't do the ribbon thingy.

December 1st been World AIDS day for many years. Not knowing that is fine. Cracking a joke with no ill intent is fine. Feigning ignorance and using deliberately offensive language is just tragic.

I don't see anybody having 'national syphilis day' and prancing about in a ribbon because they sh@gged a dirty bird and wish to celebrate.

Then give it a go, if you feel that appropriate. But maybe take the time to remember the victims of AIDS today.

Can't say that I miss him. or Kenny Everett, but I do own a few Queen LPs and did laugh at Cupid Stunt and Sid Snot.

AIDS is simply one of God's ways of dealing with overpopulation.
Thank the Lord for all he delivers unto us.
The fact he started with bummers was a bonus imo.

Thank you for the charmed life. Damm should have got out of the monastery more.

Wouldn't it 'help raise awareness' even more if the luvvies wore T-shirts or big Top Hats bearing the slogan 'Having Unprotected Sex with People Who Have AIDS, HIV, or Some Other Dangerous Virus, Is To Put It Mildly, Bloody Gormless. Are You Listening Africa?'

I'm amazed people can move for all the ribbons and armbands in circulation at present.

It seems more an exercise in being seen to 'care' about something.

Whatever happened to the Plastic Wristbands that were seemingly compulsory wearback in 2005? You could hardly walk down the High St for seeing all manner of people wearing 2 or 3 of them on their wrists. Even some allegedly sensible people were wearing them.

Have they become another of these Waste Mountains ?

Sparky

Come down off your high horse,or i shall cane your lilly white buttocks!

I genuinely had no idea it was this date, and like i said i ran a gay bar rigth in middle of manc gay village so knew the odd fruit who'd passed.Though aids was rarely talked about and except for fundraising on the mardi gras i dont recall a "world day"

I dont really have time for tv and i saw something with norton on and a few fellow luvvies all "ribboned" up then annie lennox in some look at me slogan-anry outfit and posted my question on here so no feighning here.

Some odd comments and i can say in my own social and family life i've never ever encountered or been affected by an aids death, and unless one keeps the company of east african prostitutes or rampantly promiscously gay men (and boy are those boys active!)i dont see how it could possibly affect you.

I dont see luvvies (with honourable exceptions) supporting cancers, heart disease, kidney failure etc which surely do affect everyones life in some way.

I've no problem with aids luvvies raising money at all but it's a proven horrifically over financed cause per rata with population and people affected. In fact it was the WHO(not them!) who did the study a few yrs back about money raised "per disease" and awareness.

In fairness though i guess most if not all luvvies ARE directly affected so a cause closer to them perhaps

Apart from the poor little kids whose parents were infected and thus have been born with a death sentence, I don't think I shall spend a minute today reflecting on those who have AIDS from having chosen to repeatedly insert their members in inadvisable places.
We call this an "own goal" in Norfolk.
And no, Sparky, I don't know any bummers so have no contact with the disease myself thanks very much or know anyone who has. We stick to our relatives up here matey.

I like Big Charlies'' query about "Alpha Male Day". What would be the correct badge or ribbon etc to wear ?

I remember AIDS being front page news everyday for five years in the 80s.
Then the war in Bosnia bored me for another five!
Never met anyone with AIDS or heard of anyone dying of it.
I dont hang out with gays, sub-Saharan Africans or junkies.
All i know is it ruined my sex life in the 1980s for no good reason.
Its terrible people die from this hideous disease but AIDS day?
Lets have a "Kidney failure day".

Probably more sense to an AIDS day than other ilnesses. The earlier it's diagnosed the better the chances of living a normal life these days - if it means people are encouraged to get tested when they otherwise might it's worthwhile (and well done to all those people who have never put themselves in a position where they are open to infection - what wonderful people you are...)

Aids and HIV arent just a gay/junkie problem

Infection rates are growing among hetrosexuals and there is believed to be upto 200,000 people in the Uk who arent aware they are HIV+

Some pretty ignorant posting on this thread
