The country isn't, but the cities are.
Report maleuk01. • December 1, 2009 2:00 PM GMT
Yes, not because of space so much, i guess lots of countryside can be built on.

However its the infrastructure, try tavelling on the motorways daytime/rush hour! Then is there is the hospitals/schools all crammed.

Also where more people move is into the cities and previous recreational facilities are all being knocked down for flats and houses so there is f all to do.

???

60 million people all living on a tiny island?

Same population as France but a quarter of the size. Sounds like a very severe case of overpopulation to me.
Report book • December 1, 2009 3:55 PM GMT
ovalman, difference is the rest of the world are mostly inhabited by their own countrymen, this is not the case in england.

geldof in africa: saved many lives short term - created no end of additional misery long term as twice as many subsequently suffered to date.

its not pc - but no overseas aid re famine should be given without it being linked to a long term programme of sterilisation/ population control.

The worlds climate is changing - soon there will be a big reduction in habitable land - wars will result unless population is drastically reduced
Report V4 Vendetta • December 1, 2009 4:02 PM GMT
No, there's plenty of room if the government would stop restricting the housing supply.
Report lmfao • December 1, 2009 4:04 PM GMT
Goring - i suspect you are not well travelled - there is not 'plenty of room'

take a trip to NZ m8- they have their social problems but there's a country with plenty of room!
Report bix • December 1, 2009 4:05 PM GMT
You know immediately that this country is overpopulated when you get off the ferry and drive here after driving on the continent.
Everyone from anywhere else in Europe comments on it.
Report The Magic Flea • December 1, 2009 4:07 PM GMT
shirley you are confusing car posession with population
Report lmfao • December 1, 2009 4:07 PM GMT
one bad accident last week on M2 in Kent - result- total gridlock for 5 hours - 12noon til 5pm + in all directions - all routes

of course we are overpopulated

we've enough roads for a sensible number of people
Report lmfao • December 1, 2009 4:10 PM GMT
if we had a quarter of current population we could continue to have same no. of cars per family / full employment and less stressful lives

we would be happier

we can do this - planning a reduction over a number of generations to come.

Trouble is - religions won't be sensible about this and neither will political parties
Report The Magic Flea • December 1, 2009 4:10 PM GMT
haha try rome if you want to see gridlock :) and that is a population of 4m with 5m cars. I wonder how italians would run a 9m city

Correct, and they're still starving.

What's the point of throwing more money over there?

Metro Manila has 11 million in a third of the size of London. Another 26 million can easily be fitted into London :p

18% of the UKs immigrants live in these 7 East and south east 'London' boroughs.

newham
tower hamlets
hackney
barking
ilford
lewisham
peckham

by the time you take into account Brixton, stockwell, croydon, penge, crystal palace, tottenham, islington, wembley and southall, there can't be a lot left to spread over the rest of the UK, barring Bradford and Blackburn.
