Here's a photo of the hills about 2 miles from my house, where they're being erected. It's crazy. There are loads of out of the way bleak moors they could be built on.

I think everyone is a NIMBY, EGG. I don't ever see protestors demanding that a Nuke or one of these Windmill jobs is built in their back yard.

Wur - or anyone
Do these wind farms make a hell of a lot of noise or something? I've seen quite a few of these on my UK travels and wonder why they never seem to attract any positive publicity. They look dramatic and impressive enough but I guess that's not much compensation if they are a noise polluter. I also read somewhere that the energy they produce is a tiny and insignificant percentage of the UKenergy production. Anyone know??? |

No, that's a future site at Abington, 20 miles south of me. The big one near me, currently the biggest in Europe, is Whitelee, and can power Glasgow. Here's a BBC news story about it from 3 years ago. It's up and running, now.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/8378524.stm It's been estimated that the full potential of wind power in this country would be just 20% of total electricity. No idea how much noise they make. I'm a council tenant, so not affected, but the view of the local hills must be a selling point for a lot of homeowners here. 2 Miles might seem remote, but these things are gigantic. |
