He'd be a long way down the list; I always think his TV cooking often looks inedible, largely because I gather he refused to 'fake it'.

Some of these TV chefs look suspiciously bad cooks. I'm not convinced Nigella or Nigel Slater, for instance, can actually make a decent meal.

I used to be drooling when Graham Kerr- the Galloping Gourmet-

used to invite a guest up on stage at the show's end, to tuck

into the meal he had just prepared.

It always seemed to include a steak !
