Hello, hopefully someone will be able to help me here, last night I spilt some lager on my keyboard and as a result it now doesn't work at all, the laptop turns on fine but when it comes to logging in I cannot type any letters to input my password and as such am locked out of my computer.
I wondered if it was a suitable option to buy a USB keyboard and use that as a short term**rather than taking it to be fixed which would take a few days. Does anyone who has a USB keyboard know whether they require software to be installed before use, if so it wouldn't be an option unfortunately. If I can just plug it in and go then it seems a nice easy solution to the problem.
Any help much appreciated, cheers :)

Just plug and pray.

I think the keyboard will auto install itself. Speaking from experience, your own keyboard may right itself after a day or so.

and a new keyboard will only cost a £5 or so in tescos so worth a try.

In my experience (x2 :( ) lager kills keyboards permanently.

So you think that if I plug the keyboard in whilst on my log in screen it will auto-install from there and will function? I will probably just try it as £5 isn't much to lose.

USB keyboard will work fine,you could play a hair dryer on the laptop keyboard for half an hour or so (not too close) they are not too difficult to replace,ribbon cable clips in underneath,ebay may have your model,make sure you are up to taking a laptop apart before attempting it though,but as I said not a hard**

johnterry, A usb keyboard on a laptop will work fine. My children spilt something on my Laptop keyboard and now I use a usb one,

i have to use a seperate keyboard plugged into my laptop after spilling a full pint of lager over it.

if some letters dont happen to work properly use on screen
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Accessibility, and then On-Screen Keyboard. |

I've destroyed 3 keyboards due to lager spillage
also broke a remote control due to spilt lager too :( I've bought this keyboard for £25, it's supposed to be waterproof, but we'll see |
