Not had a car for 3 yers now, but the last time i drove i had around 4 years no claims...what i want to know is, does this mean i now have 7 years no claims or does it start aftresh with me not having driven or owned a car in the last 3 years

no chance you have 7 years unless you kept a policy running during the period you were not driving

Damn! When I got my first car at age 17 I could have said I had 16 years no claims.

Were you a named driver on anyone else's policy? If not, check with a company how long they let previous no-claims go for before expiring (I have a feeling it is usually 3 years).

When you look for a policy, always price it with another person on it as named driver. They should live at your address, and if you are young, they should be old (otherwise it doesn't matter - unless you are old and they are young). And they should have no convictions/crashes preferably.

think you have lost your 3 yrs no-claims if you have not taken one out for 3yrs
